Recovery of a WIn95 full disk

Thread needs solution

I used true image 2011 to backup a disk with Win95 O/S. The disk software is Win95 based and used to control machine operations (cnc).

When I do a recovery, the recovered disk(image) gives me an "I/O error replace disk and try again". Does the MBR not get backed up or recovered, or is there some special files a system can use that True Image doesn't back up?

Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks

Hello Darren,

Thank you for finding time to join us on Forum, and report about the issue. I understand your concern, and will shed the light onto the situation.

I regret to inform you that Acronis True Image Home 2011 doesn't support Win95 OS, and we cannot guarantee that the OS will be correctly backed up and restored. You can see the list of supported OSes here.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Looks like MBR and boot sector (its code writes this message) survived, but IO.sys and MSDOS.SYS did not or were misplaced and boot sector can't find them. You may try to use windows 95' 'sys' command to restore them (e.g. install windows 95 somewhere, make a bootable floppy, boot from floppy, issue 'sys' command.
