2 very confusing errors, one on boot, one after restore a file from the backup

Thread needs solution

Hi
I get an Error when windows boots up and at the desktop saying something like i can get the exact mesage when i reboot: "Error in scheduled validation task see system log for details" (two of the words in the messge are joined together as well). It appears in a bubble the same one the other arconis message appear in. I have looked in event viewer and in arconis log nothing obvious. I just backup on custom i dont use validation or the scheduler.

I also have another werid issue when i backup and next day i need to check a file from the backup i browse to in windows explorer and see the file i can open/copy it no problem. But later on when i do a backup and try and do a differential backup like i do most nights it says the backup is invalid and i cant do a differential or use that backup again. Although i can still open it and reteive files fine?

Please bring back the old versions features this new version is very confusing and everything seems to be a fight. The Old version I used for many years and not once did i have to ask for help new version in this version thrice in 6 weeks :(

Thanks
Andy

Andrew,

Try this:
- uninstall ATI
- move the tib files you want to keep to a hidden folder on the same disk they are now
- use the Acronis cleanup utility http://kb.acronis.com/content/14871
- reboot,
- reinstall ATI
- set up new tasks. For each task you create, go to the advanced tab in the backup options, click on validation schedule, unfold the advanced settings and uncheck any box here except the one that prevents the computer to sleep (in build 6857).
- verify this has fixed your issues
- when ready, go back and schedule your validation as you want.

Thanks Pat. That answer seems a bit complex.

the exact error is this :

operation has failed.
BAckup validation task execution failed
description: Satge DescriptionSee operation log for details

Any thought on why i get the second issue of invalid backup after restoring one file?

I have removed all backups from the list except the one i did tonight and it still is happening and before i did the backup i made sure the validation and schedule were off. Including the ticks you mentioned. Sure you cant be serious i have to unistall the whole application to get rid of this error seems a little dramatic. Especially seems as its opeions i never used before and if it happens again i will have uninstall again.

Right i have solved the notification problem all you have do is delete the key in the registry in this location.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\TrueImageNotifications
The error was in ther for all to see

Any thoughts on the restore problem. As that seems very odd.

Are you still seeing any notification from Acronis? I mean, are you positive you didn't turn off all the notifications form ATI?

Andrew,

ATI 2011 doesn't have the notion of making a differential on top of an existing full as a one off. A backup task is set up from the get go as a full, incremental or differential task. In any case, you get first a full, then, eventually, the partials. I wanted to clear up this possible confusion, as this feature of adding/appending a backup to an existing TIB file was present in earlier versions, but not in 2011.

Pat

I use custom schema do a fully backup and then next day i do a differential on top of that by hitting backup but on the previous nights backup in the backup list. If i then use that backup to restore a file the next evening i hit backup on that backup from the backup list it says invalid backup and marks the line that says backup completed yesterday @ time red and no longer can i do a backup using that scheme. Which i find very odd you and a bit worrying that something is a miss.

As to the notifications i'm not sure what they are i only ever saw that one. And not sure how to test the notifications.

thanks

Andy

Andy,

Which version of ATI are you using?

Andrew,

Acronis has delivered a fix for the failed validation on startup.
