time explorer overwriting master boot record in backups

Thread needs solution

Tried to restore Windows 7 but reserved partition has time explorer instead of master boot record. Cannot boot restored partitions.

How do I stop the time explorer overwrite, and how can I restore the master boot record partition with master boot record data?

Did you restore from the CD? The drive letters from the CD are not the same as in Windows. Some users get confused.
Do you restore again, check the partitions labels or size.

What is time explorer? Do you mean the non-stop backup folder?

Thank you for reply... Seem to have two problem comments running!!...

Restored from different HDD. The reserved partition that holds the MBR normally has the boot files, but these were overwritten (or deleted?) and the only file was called 'time explorer' which is Acronis backup file. Acronis seems to add this file to the MBR reserved files (checked with Windows Explorer)

Therefore there was no MBR to boot the OS (Win 7 Prof 64bit)

Now using 32bit version on another HDD whilst trying to sort the problem and get at the 64bit OS.

David,

It is unlikely that the system partition is large enough to contain your NSB. I guess this is a remnant of an earlier error during the setup of NSB. Make sure you have Windows explorer set to see hidden files AND show protected system files. Then examine the system reserved partition, you should see the boot files.

Your problem is probably that the restored partition is not marked active. You can activate it in Windows Disk Management Console.

If you have 2 Win versions installed you will need a boot manager to select which one to boot on. You can do this with the Win7 installationt DVD or thirt party tools.
