Validation does not occur when Win7 computer in hibernation mode

Thread needs solution

Hi All, I'm having an issue with validations not occurring immediately after a backup. I have ATI Home 2011 w/ Plus Pack (Update 2, build 6868) set to back up every morning at 3am. According to the log, it wakes up the computer, backs up fine and then the validation gets put off until the morning when I go to use the computer and wake it from hibernation mode.

In the Disk Backup Options menu, all options are turned off except for what I list below:

  • Backup Scheme tab: is set to Incremental with the Create only incremental versions after the initial full version radio button set to ON Advanced tab:
  • Validation section:
  1. Validate backup when it is created checked ON
  2. Removable media settings, Ask for first media while creating backups on removable media is checked ON (though I never use this)
  3. Error handling: Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent mode) is ON, When not enough space in ASZ, delete the oldest backup is ON

That's it.  Right now the ASZ does not have enough free space, but I have found that if I let the validation complete, ATI will make room by deleting the oldest backup as it is set to do.

The only weird thing is if in Configure disk backup process I click on the Schedule section (in my case it says Daily, at 3:00am), under advanced settings "Wake up the sleep/hibernation computer" is set to ON, but "Prevent the computer from sleeping during the task execution" is set to OFF.  If I turn it on, click OK, in the previous Configure disk backup process screen that appears, the Save button is greyed out, all I can choose is cancel.  Clicking cancel and then getting back to the "Prevent the computer from sleeping..." setting shows that it is back to being OFF.

In the Windows settings itself Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Balanced plan setting -> Advanced -> Sleep -> Allow wake timers is set to ENABLE.

This is driving me nuts - I can't work while the validation is happening as ATI makes the computer slow down too much - not to mention that it is supposedly set to wake up and do it in the middle of the night.

What gives?

Maybe the computer is getting back to sleep anyway during the validation, ignoring the setting preventing it to sleep during validation?

It seems there is a bug with the prevent sleeping option by which the setting is reset and not saved. I am wondering whether tweaking the schedule by a mn and then clicking OK would allow you the configuration window to activate the save button and actually save the entire set of changes (the prevent sleeping and the timing change). Even if you were able to save the prevent sleeping setting, it might not stick anyway.

Thanks Pat - I tried shifting the start time by 1 min and it seems to have taken. Let's see if it manages to do a backup & validation tonight
