Acronis TI 2010 Still Hangs on Windows 7
The problem with Acronis TI 2010 hanging that many people have reported is not fixed by installing SnapAPI 3.8.503!!!! I followed the instructions posted on this forum to uninstall the previous version and to install the 503 version, and nothing changes -- it still hangs. After initially installing TI 2010 I was able to make a couple of backups, but then it began hanging. Like many have reported, a forced power off and reboot is required. I tried using different backup drives, tried stand alone backup using the bootable media, plus anything else I could think of and nothing helped. The only thing left to try was reconfiguring my RAID-0 volume as independent disks. After that I was able to do a few backups, so I wrote off the problem as being a conflict with RAID. However, I am now back to the point where I cannot complete any backups of non-RAID volumes, of either the system partition or non-system partitions. I have also noticed lately that TI does not play nice with other active processes. For example, the keyboard and mouse get locked out monentarily, and I get occasional alerts saying that the display driver was not responding. When the latter happens, windows suddenly disappear and then the screen goes black monentarily, and then it recovers. This started happening at the same time I began having problems backing up again. When I watch process activity in the task manager Acronis TI frequently goes 100%. When I watch activity in the resource monitor Acronis TI disk activity runs at a miserably slow but consistent 30 MB/sec, and then stops dead in its tracks at random points in the backup. The hangs occur even when there is no other activity going on in the system other than normal OS background activity. This sucks! I have purchased four versions of TI since 8.0, and all of them have had serious issues. Stupid me, I still keep coming back for punishment. I have an Intel X-25M on order and I need to be able to create some backup images so I can install the new SSD. I would appreciate it if you would solve this problem so I don't have to spend more money on an alternative solution. Thanks. P.S. Please don't ask me to run chkdsk -- I already have. All of my drives are brand new Veloci Raptors or Caviars, and I have run WDC extended diagnostics on all of them. BTW, I am running Windows 7 in case you did not catch that in the title.

Does NOT Work.
I installed Window 7 Professional 64 bit. For some reason my Acronis True Image Home 10 will not run. Windows says it's not compatible. However the ACronis website says it is. I downloaded the newest version from your website and it still does not run.
Help please.

I am a long term ATI user and it has installed on my clean install of Win 7 pro 64 bit. It backs up and I can explore the backup but forget mounting the image. Can't be done. I have not had the courage to try booting from the cd - from everything I have read, it is not going to happen. Acronis as a firm seem to have lost the plot and ATI seems to be almost unusable. Win 7 does an image and a bootable CD and although I have not yet tried out a restore, I think it probably works better than ATI. I now regret the purchase of ATI 2010. ATI 2009 works fine on my husband's XP machine - I wish it would on Win 7. It seems also as if each new build gets worse instad of better, and I have not upgraded the original build that I bought. It is fine for backing up to an external disk - the files can be found and probably restored, but I would not now trust it to restore an image as it has in the past. Just read the other posts on this subject! Also, I don't see why I should start having to do command line editing to make the bootable CD work or waiting to be given a link to another ISO which will work. Either Acronis have done the work to make this function or they have not. I get the feeling that this is now a beleagured firm struggling to keep going with a small range of products....

Are you confusing TI 10 with TI 2010?
TI 10 does not officially support W7 and Acronis won't help you in that regard. However TI 10 can be persuaded to run as discovered by KoL0 - I'm not sure how to get around the installation blacklist though.
If you have managed to install it, then just renaming the TI exe file to something slightly different will get it to run.
Be warned though, that as you won't have changed any registry entries some othe rparts of the program won't be able to find the renamed exe file and as TI 10 won't understand some of the new W7 methods, you will need to ensure that a full recovery is possible.
If you have installed W7 on a new disk, with no partitions, then W7 will have formatted the drive to the new Microsoft standard and TI 10 will not know anything about this. This might cause a restore problem. If there were partitions made by XP or a Vista upgrade then you'll probably be OK as these partitions will be in the old style format.
You can tell which type of format you have as a W7 clean partitioned machine will have a 100MB system partition as well as the C:\

Which version of TI are you refering to?
If not v2010 then the same provisos apply to my post above.

Hi,
I installed TI Home 2010 on a Win7 64bit system.
Bauckp works fine, bootable CD works also and a restore of the boot-disk worked perfectly also.

Have you been able to mount an image? And did you do an image restore rather than just test the boot disk? What build are you running?
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires
Yes - I'm able to mount images
yes - I restored the complett bootdisk without any problem
The build is: Build 6.053

Newly built Win 7 Pro x64 system. Running fine for 3 weeks. Patched up to latest Windows updates as of 1/28/2010. Installed Acronis TI 2010 build 6.053. Tried to run an image backup several times. Each time everything including TI and the keyboard freezes/stops responding. The mouse cursor continues to move, but nothing responds to mouse clicks.
On the last attempt, after waiting more than 30 minutes, the TI progress bar had not moved and CPU utilization remained 0% with occasional spikes to 1%. As others have reported, I had to reboot and stay away from using TI 2010 to get back to normal.
Responding "it works for me" doesn't help much, unless we provide more detail and compare configurations/backup parameters. Then we might begin to see common denominators/patterns.
Has anyone seen evidence that Acronis has exercised due diligence on this issue/made any effort to address it?

I have exactly the same problem here except that one process (I cant remember its name I will give it later) is using 100% of one thread.
here is my config :

DOES NOT WORK ON NEW LENOVO THINPAD W700.
Win 7 Pro 64 bit
TIH 2019 v 6053
The recovery CD can be created but it does not mount.
Attempts to create disk or single partition feeze the computer.
I think that it is a serious misrepresentation by Acronis to state that TIH-2010 is Win7 and x64 compatible. I upgraded to it specifically for this compatibility. I will give them a month to fix it. If it is not fixed, I will go after getting my money back. Meanwhile, I will have to rely on Win7 and Lenovo backup tools.

Clarification of my earlier statement: Reporting that TI 2010 works properly on your system can be useful for troubleshooting, but the value of each positive or negative report goes up exponentially if we all supply key information for comparison purposes. I actually overdid it somewhat on the the hardware specs posted above. The following items should be useful in determining if certain configurations are problematic :
Acronis version: TI 2010 build 6.053
Attempted Action: Full image backup of system volume
Result: backup never completes; Windows becomes unresponsive
Workaround: requires hard reset
OS: Windows 7 Pro x64
Motherboard: Intel DP55KG
CPU: i7 860
BIOS version: KGIBX10J.86A.4507.2010.0105.1706
Chipset: P55 - driver INF version 9.1.1.1022
Backup from: Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD x 2 (RAID-1)
Backup to: Samsung F3 HD103SJ 1TB x 2 (RAID-1)
Apps/Tools that could potentially interfere with TI:
Norton Internet Security 2010

I have Win 7 64 bit with Norton 2010 and I just think that Acronis have lost the plot. I would not give much for your chances of a refund though. Win 7 has its own imaging facility which does work. I now use TI for a weekly backup, easily explorable but forget it as a disk imaging utility. It just does not work. And I am not going to get latest builds of TI. There are too many problems reported with the later ones. Given this disaster I think word will gradually get out and will be reflected in reviews. Whether the company will still be trading in a year or so is debateable. Support is non existant and they seem to be simply struggling. Its a shame, but you cannot really up the ante on a backup facility and try to resell it with "new" features when all we really want is the old reliable image creator and restorer, which it no longer seems to do. Shame as it was really good, but I can no longer recommend it to clients

It miserably locks up on Win7 x86-64.....
Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
ASUS P6T Deluxe, i7 940
12GB RAM
C: is 4x1TB WD in RAID 10 (2TB usable)
Hang starts within a few minutes but not always at same point, but usually right when it says creating partition image. Hardware reset required - ctl-alt-delete doesn't respond after a while - and when it does (early on in the hang it appears that it keeps attempting to kill explorer.exe (as if TI has lost focus and can't be regained). Attempts to kill the process from very early task manager kills will result in a confirm window that hangs. 0% cpu and very low IO (only csrss.exe - and no - not the virus version - so the script kiddies can sit back down)
Used to crash repeatedly under Vista on same hw and often had to be reinstalled to get it to work. Sadly, that trick appears to be broken now.
Hangs whether UAC on or off, local or network backup location.
Ran Chkdsk - clean
Ran Virus check - clean
Ran malware - clean
uninstall/reinstall - still hangs (multiple attempts)
BTW - their website doesn't work either - at least not with Firefox - tried to report the problem and after typing in the details, it barfed on "connection problems"......par for the course. yep - TI sports a glitzier interface than from years ago - but sadly suspect I am gonna have to go back to Norton as Acronis spent too much money on graphic artists and not enough on QA
Windoze imager is dreadfully slow - gets to about 66% and then imitates Acronis (albeit with some very slow progress).

Jeff,
Do you have volume shadow enabled as well?
Have you tried using the resuce CD, just to see if you have the same sort of problems. The CD will be slightly slower than the Windows version, though in your case it might be much faster.....
I wonder if the problem is due to the RAID setup or the size of the disks It has been reported that some very large drives cause TI some problems.
What other programs/utilities are running in the background?
Is your video and network drivers up to date?
If you are backing up via a network, there could be a timeout problem occuring and TI just gives up.
I also have asimilar problem with Firefox and IE8, and yes it does get worse when TI is running a schedule, BUT, and here is a big but, on my latop I have a pre release version of TI installed as well as the trial version of the security suite and although Firefox and IE8 still hiccup occasionally Safari for Windows doesn't - so it is debatable whether TI is the culprit or just manages to exacerbate a problem with Firefox and IE8.

1) supposedly. Service was set to start "Manual"....properties on drive "Previous Versions" tab seems to work ('course nothing there)
2) No, haven't tried rescue CD - would be painful (have done this before) and a real drag - kinda like the old Ghost - you can't do anything during a backup (oh joy)....gimme my Linux!
3) Not supposed to....at least as per TI.
4) Nothing other than normal boot stuff
5) Absolutely (drivers up to date)
6) mostly backing up (or attempting to) to another local RAID set created to hold backups....network NAS attempt was trying to isolate if for some reason TI wasn't liking RAID set.
BTW - this is TI build 6053 (latest)....tried with and without TI plus pak. Disk Director Suite v10.0 also installed. I also tried the Snap fix (top post) - the only thing it did was cause a bunch of extra reboots due to "old versions found" (lame of Acronis to do reboots when adding/removing services - that is so 2001-ish) and then finally after all the reboots failed with a snap error. Removed and reinstalled TI and hung it again for 6+ hours.
Switched VSS to Automatic - will try it that way when I get to a place where I can do a hard reset when it hangs again.

I join the club saying: TI 2010 doesn't work on Win 7 64. I am a longtime user (since v. 8) and had 2009 with Vista (several problems there). Bought new laptop, Acer, Win 7 64x, and tried a lot in order to acquire confidence until I just gave up and bought O&O DiskImage 5 Pro, today (which works). My case with TI 2010: a) can make image from within Windows; I made an image and began to try recovery; b) If recovering from within Win, the TI hangs when TI is trying to start; c) Booted with the CD made with Bootable Media - same thing; d) tried with CD made from ISO image, downloaded - same thing - in all cases above I tried Safe Mode and Full Mode; e) Tried with ISOLINUX downloaded from site - boots but recovery stopped in mthe middle with an error message and the result was my Windows damaged - had to do a repair and had all sorts of problems; hours of sleep lost. Gave up. Moved to competitor. Lost too much time. I want to buy something that works, someone said. I agree. I just can't have TI installed , make images OK but have no confidence that I'll be able to recover when the real disaster happens. It has to work flawlessly, as simple as that. The amount of complaints and problems in this fourms is simply absurd. Anyone who visits this forum before, will not buy Acronis products. I insisted because with XP it worked and saved me several times. Bye...

I have given up on Acronis. I recently got an email from Acronis support regarding SnapAPI Build 503. I tried it and it fixed the problem of Win 7 hanging, but I cannot resore the image. I do not have the time to test half baked fixes. I have lost confidence in Acronis and I am looking for alternative. My Lenovo ThikPad W700 Win 7 X64 came with IBM Backup and Restore, which has acquard interface (designed for corporate IT people) but works reliably one you get a hang of it. I still have Acronis TIH-2010 on my XP desktop, which I will replace as soon as I get to it. I want to have the same software on both my machines. This is like a divorce. One feels let down but reality is that Acronis is no longer a powerhouse of backup.

Same here : IT WORKS!!! I m happy :D !!!
I did test the backup and it works like a charme, no hangs, no reboot and on my 16 cores station it is very fast (it use between 60 and 90% cpu ressource) :
I did backup my c:\ partition on an external SATA drive, the partition was 27Gb.
It only takes 2mins 16 sec to backup it!!! and 1min 35 sec to verify it!
Amazing...
The compression was set to above normal and the resulting .tib was 10.2Gb
I didnt test recovering from DOS but I can browse the *.tib under Windows whitout problem.*
Thanks a lot for this update Acronis!
PS : I realy wonder why you didnt include this patch directly into the ATI install....

What is "snapapi503.msi" and where do I find it? My computer is a Dell Dimension E521 running an AMD dual processor.
So far the only way I've been able to backup is to boot off the CD and do it in DOS mode with TI 2010 build 6053.

Hello all,
We have released a new build of Acronis True Image Home 2010 # 7046. I would recommend you to update the software to the latest build. Please see Release notes for your information.
You can learn more on how to download the latest build here.
Here are the articles available in our Knowledge base:
Acronis True Image Home 2010: Updating to build 7046
Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack: Updating to build 7046
This build already contains SnapAPI module of the latest build (i.e. the initial issue of this thread has been addressed), that's why please uninstall the separate SnapAPI module (if there is any) by Add or Remove programs utility prior installing 7046.
Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.

I have downloaded TrueImage2010.7046_s_en, which is True Image home 2010, build 7046 I believe.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit OS on a Thinkpad T410.
I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, tried many of the things suggested in this forum, and I still get the message "Failed to open (initialize) the computer" ... Failed to initialize the snapshot manager library, the system cannot find the file specified. I can supply all the rest of the codes and tags, as needed.
There is no SnapAPI module to be removed in the Add or Remove programs.
I have had no luck following many of the suggestions.
I have happily used Acronis for years over several different computers and operating systems. But I am getting discouraged.
Any help before I abandon Acronis?

Peter,
Do you have any of the Lenovo utilities running in the background?
What firewall and A/V system are you using?
It might be worth setting the Acronis services to delayed start in Services.msc.
There is a Microsoft offering in the SysInternals suite, that will allow you to monitor the boot time service loading process and from that you'd be able to see if there is a race condition.
Is this version of W7 a Lenovo provided one or one that you installed over the top of XX ?
I've got an x61 which works OK with TI 2010:7046. W7 was an new install with the Vista folder backed up. I did have to redownload all the Lenovo bits and bobs again to work properly with W7 especially the fingerprint and video drivers. I'd think it unlikely the fingerprint driver might be causing the problem, but the video one might.

Acronis Customer,
Your post is a little confusing (to me).
Do you own both TIH2010 and 2011?
What link did you click on and where?
