Delete Backup causes ALL backups to disappear from external drive
Hello folks
I am rebuilding a system after some problems with RAM. So I installed Windows 7 and installed Acronis True Image Home 2011 (build 6868). I created a new backup (Backup A) on an external drive. After installing updates I updated that backup, and again after installing Office 2010, Office 2010 SP1, my software, etc - so over the last few days always had a few points to go back if needed.
First issue: after a few updates it seems Acronis listed the backup twice in its interface, with a (1) at the end (Backup A(1). Why not keep the original name and update the original one?
Today I was happy with the build and before restoring my data I wanted to create an image I could restore in the future, just the OS and applications, so I created a new backup with a different name (Backup B), with a different file.
I then decided to delete the old backup (Backup A). The idea was to create new backup (Backup C) that would be scheduled for daily update, while keeping Backup B as a fresh restore if needed.
Second issue: from the list I selected Backup A actions, Delete Backup and... ALL BACKUPS in that drive were removed (Backup B and Backup C). Those were backups with different names!
So obviously I now have NO backup at all and I creating a new one, which include my data - not the ideal "lean restore image" I had in mind.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion Pat, I will create different backups in different folders from now on...

I seem to have a worse problem. I have made backups on different discs with, say, the same name my_partitions. Running an update of the image on one drive appears to delete images on other drives!! Can this really be??

Well, typically ATI should not delete TIB files from other tasks, but it looks like there are cases where it does. I have never seen this happening when the tasks use different names and different locations.
Remember that ATI keeps track of locations of older images of the same backup task. If you change the location of a backup task from disk A to disk B and keep auto-cleaning options on, and the 2 disks connected, the older images on disk A will be deleted after a while (this is normal behavior).

As I said in my post, I was using the same filename, but have now changed them. This could be why I am having trouble?

Frankly, I am not sure using the same name is the reason. It could some database corruption. ATI is infamous for getting you in trouble if you edit a backup task settings "too much". If you have tweaked your backup strategy a lot, that might be a reason as well.

Derek,
Acronis says having multiple backups in the same location is not an issue but many of us would strongly disagree.
Each of my tasks is to a different folder(or sub-folder) and with a different name. I prefer not to take the chance with a mixed bag of backups.
