Raid 10 backup possible ??

Thread needs solution

I've seen the Acronis RAID compatibility sheet.

kb.acronis.com/content/11681

Is the only way to backup my raid 10 array, is to purchase a RAID hardware card, and install the "Plus-pack" ?

(also, I am assuming when Acronis refers to RAID 1+0...that means RAID 10 ??)

As you can see from the link you have, the only way ATI can support RAID 10 (=RAID 1+0) is when the RAID is a hardware RAID setup. In other words, if the disk that you backup is set up through a hardware RAID, you can back it up with ATI, without the Plus Pack.

You can backup this hardward RAID 10 setup to any disk you want, not necessarily another RAID system.

No Acronis for me then.

I wish they'd add more support for RAID arrays, as this is becoming increasingly
popular for home desktop users, and semi-professional media workstations.

Is "software raid" that which is configured in your mobo's BIOS setup ?

...and "hardware raid" is ONLY when using an optional plugin card ?

I wish it were spelled out in plain simple language.
Perhaps I'll try, from what I understand.
Tell me if this is correct.....

"Hardware RAID" can either be on your motherboard or on an optional plugin card.
If on a RAID capable motherboard, it is configured in the BIOS, not your OS application.
In other words, it is configured "outside " the OS, typically before the OS is even installed.

"Software RAID" is configured "inside" your OS, using tools found there, or some add-on software.

If the above is true, that is the answer I was looking for.
