Explanation of backup file formats / contents
I suspect that I don't understand the .tib file formats, but I'm not sure what question to ask, so I will describe the (simple) thing I want to accomplish. I invite comments / explanations.
I'm running TI2010 on Vista. I have all of my system + work on C: (about 500G of stuff, total).
I have a "spare" hard drive on E: (about 500G-600G free).
I, also, have an external drive, which is disconnected and turned off most of the time.
I want to do daily incremental backups onto E:, then once a week, copy the full set of backups to the external drive and to rt the backup process over from a full to daily incremental for another week.
I have set up one daily, incremental task. I've told it to limit backups to 500G and consolidate after 7 backups.
What I see on E: confuses me. I see 10 .tib files (Backup, Backup1, Backup2 ... Backup9). And the E: drive is completely full (i.e. more than 500G has been used up).
The .tibs seem to have been created on successive days. The first one is huge, the others smaller (as expected).
If I double-click on a .tib, I see 8 backups with 8 sequential dates inside.
I don't understand why there are more than 7 .tib files on E:.
I'm not sure which .tib's to copy to the external drive. Should I delete any of the .tibs manually (after copying to the external) to start the process over again?
Comments? Suggestions how to accomplish what I intend? Suggestions on how to improve on what I intend?
thanx
