Unable to clone 1 usb hdd to another usb hdd in Windows using Migrate easy.
Thanks in advance for any help you can lend me to resolve this issue. It seems that everytime i try to clone a hard drive across usb ports, i have no success. Is there not a way to do this? Migrate easy goes through the motions until i get the "complete" notice. Then I plug the newly cloned hdd into another pc using the usb port and nothing happens. It appears that there is no partition on the drive. What am i doing wrong? Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I have a customer who needs to upgrade his hdd in his laptop. I was assuming that I could clone his old drive onto the new drive and then swap them out (put the new drive into the laptop). That was the reasoning behind my purchase of this program (do i need to install migrate easy onto every hard drive that i want to clone?) How does the recovery cd work and can it be used for this purpose? Is there a more appropriate acronis product that i should purchase to be able to achieve this? I need a program that will allow me to clone one hard drive connected by usb to another hard drive connected by another usb port. I need a product that I only need to install on one pc to clone multiple drives. Is this possible? If not, do you have any recommendations?
Oh and by the way, both hard drives are 160gb's this time around yet I've had the same problem with other drives of various sizes.
I'm less one handful of hair now and any advice would be appreciated more than you may know. Thanks so much for the help.

I am not sure about what feature is enabled on the bootable media CD of Migrate Easy. I checked the user guide but it was not clear about that. You should try to produce the recovery bootable media CD using Migrate Easy, boot your computer on it and see if the cloning feature is available. If available, definitely do the cloning from the CD. At that point, Windows is not in the way, and your computer is just a pipe from one disk to another.
Therefore, you don't need to install the software on the disk you want to clone.
Of course, if you clone disk A to disk B, B needs to go in the same computer as A. You cannot take B to computer C, unless the hardware is exactly the same.
