ATIH 2011: Backup manually

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'd like to backup my full partitions c: and d:. When I enter the main menue and select backup of volumes and partitions I started backup, I did again one day later and got another full backup. I want start the backup manually and want do incremental backup to save space on my external hard disk. How can I do that?

How can I delete the older one of this two full backups?

Retsore full system on new hardware: What do I need to do? I cretaed a bootable media and did the backup as described above. Will this be enough? Show I buy ATIH 2011 Plus Pack?

Thank you for your help,
Engelbert

By default, when you create a new disk and partition backup, ATI will use the "version chain" scheme. You will always get first 2 full backups, then ATi will add differential backups and rotate this overtime, although the first full backup is always kept.

If you want to customize your backup scheme, create a new backup. I recommend the following settings for a daily system backup:
- custom backup scheme
- incremental backup
- create a new full every 6 incrementals
- turn auto cleaning on
- keep no more than X most recent backup chains. Choose X to fit your backup space. Remember that ATi will always to a new first FULL backup before deleting any previous chain.

- turn off automatic validation. Run a manual validation from time to time.

To restore the full system on new hardware, as in new computer or new motherboard, you will need the Plus Pack. This process is not very easy and might not work. It is still the best thing to try short of reinstalling everything.

To restore the full system on the same computer, but a new disk or disk configuration, you don't need the Plus Pack.

To restore any disk and partition backup, you need the bootable media. Test it! Boot the computer on it, restore a couple of files. Make sure it works!
