Restarting a backup

Thread needs solution

The computer freezes when the backup is partially complete. I have a large number of files totalling around 600Gb. After backing up around half of the data - which has taken something like 15 hours, the computer freezes and I have to reboot and restart the backup - which fails yet again.
I am using Windows XP
Can anyone suggest why this is happening?
Secondly, is there any way I can restart the backup where it left off, rather than having to start backing up the files again from the beginning?
If I can't get it to work, it looks as though I'll have to scrap Acronis and try some other software.

What version are you using?

Have you ever successfully made backups before with ati?

Doe sthe problem happen both when starting the bakup from within windows and when using the bootCD?

It sounds like the backup is taking longer than it should, often an indication of multiple attempts to read or write a sector, which really slows down the file operatons. I'd run chkdsk /f on both the target and source drives.

Another possibility is that there a bad spot in memory somewhere (since ati use vrutually all memory, weak spots show up that might not show with other programs. to test this you coudl run memtest overnight.

I am using True Images 2011 with the latest updates. I was initially able to back up the data effectively - although to do so took around 24 hours!!
I start the backup using Windows. I've done a checkdisc on both the target and source drives and found no errors on either disc. I've given up trying at the moment, after the computer froze yet again, and have resorted to backing up the files manually.

Did you chkdsk with the /r option?
