SOLVED: ATIH 2011 Image Recovery hangs / stalls

Thread needs solution

I have ATIH 2011 installed and have a handful of images I made when I first bought the program. I'm having significant issues recovering these images.

-I have tried normal recover from Windows 7 and on reboot Acronis loads then goes to a plain blue screen with the hourglass mouse cursor which is frozen
-I have tried the Plus Pack which hangs at analysing partition, with the progress bar not ever starting
-I have downloaded and booted off the latest ISO from Acronis and same occurs as above
-I have deleted my anti-virus to see if there is any conflict
-the image is stored on a non-raid HDD
-I am trying to re-image a non-raid SSD
-none of my hardware has changed since I made the image

This is the first time I have even tried to recover any of my images and it's proving to be a bit of a nightmare. I thought it was going to make life easier but it seems a fresh Windows install and reinstalling all my programs could have been quicker in this case.

I tried the search function but couldn't find any specific advice which may help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Also the drive is 120Gb and has about 20Gb of data on it. I left the screens for about 4 hours each and nothing so I presume it's frozen. How long should it take to apply the image?

Your best chance to recover is by booting on the recovery CD.

Can you boot on the CD?

Can you browse to your backup file?

Can you validate the backup file?

Can you start the restore process?

If it hangs, where does it hangs? Always a the same spot? For all archives?

I can boot from the CD, once I select ATIH it then commences 'Analysing Partition E:/' and does nothing, the progress bar does not move. This is where it hangs every time if I boot off the CD or use Plus Pack.

I have validated the backup file in Windows.

So I guess the restore process has never really commenced.

Well this one has been solved.

Both the source and destination drives were simple unraided single partition drives. My other 2 drives are RAIDed SATA 6 drives. I physically unplugged those drives and the recovery manager worked without a hitch. I'll plug the other drives back in and it's good to go.

For whatever reason the program couldn't analyse the other drives or there was some sort of conflict. A bit annoying to have to open up the case to get this program to work but at least now I know how to get it running.

Is it a hardware RAID or a software RAID?

My Windows Vista system rebooted after a program update was loaded.
Now on restart the system goes directly to:
Starting Acronis Loader...
Press F11 for Acronis Startup Manager...

System hangs and pressing F11 has no effect.

Running the Windows repair disk and going to different restore points has no effect....continues to restart into Acronis Loader

Appreciate any advice

James,

Using the Windows Vista installation DVD, choose install, repair computer, choose command prompt.
When you have the command prompt enter:
bootrec /fixMBR

Restart the computer normally.

Pat

Followed your directions and everything is back to normal!

Really appreciate the help.
