Thread needs solution

Getting this error message on Acronis Home 2012 with plus pack. Running an incremental backup.
The backup ran from 10/04 to 10/29 with no errors and then failed every day since then.
The backup archive is being saved to an external hard drive connected via USB.
There have been no changed to the hardware or software on the system.

As a work around I have disabled the schedule for that backup, and started a new incremental backup to a new folder.

Is there any way to track down what is causing this error and prevent it from happening again?

Hello JMC,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here. I'd like to help you with the issue.

Looks like your backup script file or/and backup database for this particular backup chain have gone corrupt. Please check this article for the solution instructions.

This issue is also fixed in the upcoming Acronis True Image Home 2012 Update 1.

The article lists Acronis True Image Home 2011 as a target version, but don't let it confuse you, it's applicable for Acronis True Image Home 2012 as well.

Let us know if you have any additional questions, we'll help.

Thank you.

Yana,

The same or very similar message occurs IF while validating a backup the TIB is also being copied to a second location.

RayG, thanks for notification.

I've checked our and Development records -we don't have any known issues registered for ATIH2012 and validation process. Do you have any diagnostic information available (Acronis Info, screenshots) that you could send me? I would like to check it and submit a request to the Development, if needed.

Thank you!

Hi Yana,

I don't have any screenshots at this time because once I found out what it was I stopped what I was doing but it is simple to reproduce.

Not sure if it happens on a validation task or just on a backup + validation.

All you need to do is to create a full backup of some size, the size is just to give you time to do things. When the backup is complete and while it is validating copy the TIB file to another location preferably on another disk so you can maximise the read throughput of the source disk. At some point during the validation ATIH will complain.

I will see if I can repro the issue and post a screen shot of the error.

EDIT: failure images now attached

EDIT 2: added the E-Mailed log file which actually give more information than the log viewer in ATIH - that cannot and should not be the case the log viewer should give ALL the information.

Hi RayG,

Thanks a lot for the information provided, I really appreciate it.

I've forwarded this data to the testers team, we're working on reproducing the issue. I cannot say when the results will be ready, and will check with the testers on Monday. I will get back to you in this thread once I have any news, but don't hesitate to contact me via PM if necessary.

Thank you for cooperation once again.

Hello Ray,

Thank you for your patience, and sorry for the delay with the news.

We have tested the issue with copying the backup and validating it at the same time. If one simply copies the archive to another location (I've used NAS folder), the validation successfully finishes without any errors. I assume that the issue is actually caused by BeyondCompare, and its processes are using the archive for moving. Do you mind sending me via PM the screenshots of your BeyondCompare settings during copying the archive? I have requested the license for it, and we will be ready to retest the issue in a couple of hours.

Thank you!

@Yana: FYI, I have the latest BeyondCompare version (v3.3.3.14128) installed under three (3) operating systems -- WinXP, Vista and Win7x64. Also corresponding Windows pre-installation environments. Seems to work okay for me, but may depend on file sizes. (Most of my *.tib files are only 10 to 15 GB in size.) If any additional BC user testing would be helpful, just post or PM me.

Hi Yana

The settings are all the defaults and I am copying to a NAS device also and using the latest version of Beyond Compare. I use Folder Sync and the mirror option with the source on the left and target on the right. You have to have a large archive to copy as it does take some time for the failure to happen. In the example above the backup it was copying was 27Gb.

Because all the settings are defaults apart from setting up the source and target not sure if any screenshots are required. If you still want them I can post but it won't be very revealing I feel.

My NAS device is a Synology DS411 using the latest version of DSM and the copy is over a Gigabit network and runs between 25 and 40 GB / second.
