BSOD when trying to restore
after much research, experimentation and failure to find a solution :
Have run ATIH_CleanUp_2012 to successful completion.
Installed ATIH 2012 under Win XP home.
Initial installation completes with an error message saying installation is incomplete because of errors (unspecified).
Repair installation completes and reports successful installation.
Backup works as expected.
Attempting to restore _does find_ the most recent backup, but then system _spontaneously reboots_ i.e. BSOD. Windows reports recovery from catastrophic error, probably caused by an unidentified driver.
Further investigation :
Device Manager : Acronis Devices : Acronis Backup Archive Explorer shows yellow disk/black exclamation point - message : "device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (code 32)". Properties:Driver shows : Driver Provider -Acronis, Date 12/07/2011, Driver version -Not Available. Driver File Details Shows file available at "C:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\timntr.sys" Provider Acronis, File version 4.0.0.635. Confirmed the driver file exists where expected using Explorer.
Other Acronis devices -True Image Backup Archive Explorer, and -Acronis Virtual Disk Bus, appear OK.
Workaround offered by support is to use bootable recovery media to do the restore. Not yet tested, as I don't actually want to do a full restore, just test that the procedure for individual file restores works as expected - no joy so far.
"Code 32" search is suggesting a Registry Edit as last resort : timntr.sys does appear multiple times in a Registry search, but modification guidance is not clear.
Any alternatives or guidance?
