Can't recover backup - is it me or the programme?

Thread needs solution

This is the first time I have used Acronis and have a real problem because the source disc has broken.

In October I backed up my disc using Acronis 2011 and following the failure of the main disc need to recover the backup.
I select the directory for back up and press 'recover'. Almost immediately it comes up with a dialog box saying 'the file is corrupted'.
When I go into the volume in the Acronis Explorer, I can start to download individual files but when I reach the particular file that seems to be corrupted, I can't recover any files after that. Does that mean I have lost all data in that particular volume (or at least all files after that point?)?

I then moved onto other folders and there are a lot of points where files are corrupt. This means that although I can recover a fair proportion of the files, there are gaps all over the place. How can I work out which specific volumes are corrupt? I tried the verify utility but that came up with no findings!

When buying a well-reviewed product like this I was expeciting that if a particular section was corrupt it would skip those files and carry on where it left off, wihtout me hainvg to go in and out like a frenzied grasshopper.

So far I am really disappointed in this programme but am willing to be told that I am missing a trick.

Thakn you to anyone who can help!

I forgot to add that the original data was on a WD MyPassport. The backup was done using Dell Laptop with Windows 7 and the backup files were sent to a Western Digital MyBook. I have plugged the MyBook into my Dell desktop (also Windows 7) and I am trying to recover them from there.

Thank you again.
