Recovery Image C without Documents and Settings
My harddisk was defective and windows did not start. After running chkdsk everything was OK. But some programs do not work properly anymore.
I want to make a recovery of a half year old Image C. I did not install any programs since that time. But a lot of settings are changed.
So I plan to make an Image of current C and after that the recovery. From the Image of Current C I will copy the folder Documents and Settings and copy it on recovered C overwriting this folder of the recovery.
So I have all the current settings ans the old healthy programs. Is there anny objection for this strategy? Can I do anything wrong on this way?

You stand a good chance of mucking up your porgrams as some settings and files are kept under that directory. YOu could get lucky, but I'd keep that backup closeby just in case.
And once you get everything running fine, make a new backup.

Problem is that some settings are in the registry and some settings are in files in the Documents and Settings folders. That is true for windows, MS apps and third party apps.
The fact that your applications are can be because of registry issues and/or corrupted settings.
Instead of restoring, I would uninstall and reinstall any app that behaves weirdly.
