Is this a Backup Solution for Home Use or a App for Break Testing Home Systems?
I Started with the Western Digital Version.
Found you can't Clone from IDE mode SATA3 HDD to Upgraded larger HDD in RAID mode.
Had to Upgrade, paid $$$ for Full Version ATIH 2012
Now when i try to Clone from the small drive to the large drive it wants to reboot the system at the begining of the cloning process.
upon reboot, my system hangs at the "Acronis Loading ..."
it has sat like that for 24 hours then i finally decided to reboot back to the OS.
I tried to make a Backup of my C and D drive to a backup drive. (Make an Image of these two so they can be restored IN FULL on the new hardware)
The Backup (Imaging?) seemed to work.
Now i have a Backup Drive, with a My Partitions.tib archive (Shows in blue print meaning compressed according to Windows).
I reboot to my C: Drive (still my original small OS drive)
I open ATIH 2012, select restore.
Norm Priority, none of the 3 options selected (all 3 checkboxes unchecked as in empty, no tick marks in the boxes to enable the options...)
select the ONE and ONLY Backup made with ATIH 2012 FULL VERSION.
And it asks for the location of volume with number '1'.
5 times i select the My Partitions.tib...
a pause...
3 more times i select My Partitions.tib...
after ~1 minute, it errors out... Umm...wtf?!
so... i try to create the bootable media...
done.
reboot to the Bootable Media.
get the blue Acronis Screen (sometimes, sometimes it freezes before the selectable buttons appear)
when i click ANY button...
i am back at the Acronis Logo at the top left corner (the Yellow/orange logo) and it says "Acronis Loading..."
and stays that way (with the little "..." moving) for hours...
what program EVER takes HOURS to load in a RAM drive!?
ok, i reboot to old C: drive again.
create a 250 GB Primary NTFS Partition on my new 1TB drive. Labeled it Win7.
Created a second 250 GB Logical and labled it Gamez.
there is still ~500GB unallocated.
Reboot to Old C:
Start ATIH 2012, go to recover.
try to recover the STILL ONE AND ONLY backup (My Partitions.tib) one Partition at a time. start with C: no go.... Failed same issues, select location of volume with number '1'.
try to do D:....FAIL!... same issues as C: select location of volume with number '1'.
tried the Bootable media again... 6 hours of Acronis Loading....
I want my money back so i can go buy something designed to be a backup solution, not a System Breaking Testbed.

Scott Hieber wrote:In a couple of sentences can you sum up your issue?
Scott, thnx for the reply.
actually, that is the summary, in as few words as possible so as to describe the problem, and the steps taken before and after the problem.
and my headaches don't end there.
since installing Acronis software, my Windows Backup and Restore has ceased to function.
Start >> All Programs >> Maintenance >> Backup and Restore....nothing.
Control Panel>> System and Security >> Backup and Restore....nothing.
Control Panel >> System and Security >> System Restore(Advanced Restore Option)>> Repair Install(Create System Image)...Nothing.
When i try to boot the Acronis Bootable Media(CD-R, Mastered/Finalized/closed), it freezes when i use the Info Tool and when i tyr to open the ATIH via the Bootable Media...it freezes...
only one thing thus far works as stated on the Product Features and Details.. from the 3 options in the bootable media, choosing to continue to load the OS. which loads right up weather i use the bootable media, or just let the Bios laod the OS.
I paid $$ for a Backup & Restore Solution.
I have yet to recieve this solution.
I want a refund.
EDIT: I need to clarify something... In the original post, i misrepresented the results of the bootable media.
It does have one function that works. The Continue loading OS.
but, my bios does the same thing just as well...

ok, i managed to fix the B&R functions native to Win 7.
http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-restore/19458-backup-restore-buttons-…
Following the Daytona12 link back to Acronis...
http://kb.acronis.com/content/14741
and dl'ing the zip at the bottom of the page (just above the survey box)
i opened the zip and droped the .reg to desktop, r-click>>Run as admin.
Completed, OK...Start>>Type "backup">>Click Backup & Restore>>>BINGO!
wow, somethng of Acronis' works! It's fix.reg file.
I still want a refund, the guy on the phone said it would work as advertised, as is on my system.
in order to get this to "Work" people have to change/modify their system to work with Acronis.
I didn't sign up for that.
I want my money back.

Michael,
Always do the recovery from the CD. Remember that ATI on the CD is running on Linux, and Linux will assign drive letters that might be different from Windows. You will have to look at the drive labels.
Even on the CD, the best thing to do is to browse for the backup, then right click it and choose restore. If you try to restore the backups from the intial list on the CD, you might get the "specify location of volume...". I know this is unsettling, but I gues it is because the CD is seeing the list of backups from the ATI in Windows, but the drive letters are changing, or something like this...
Anyway, I do often restores from the CD and I have had no issues with them.
If you can access your backup from the CD, and the CD sees your disk correctly (not obvious when you have RAIDs), you are in good shape.
Regardless of what you decide to do, remember to do the same testing with other backup software. That bare metal recovery is crucial to test...

i would love to try the restore functions of the CD, however, even though i can author my own slipstreams of firefox/chrome, and hardware specific drivers for my friends/family/coworkers bootdisks, i can not seem to get the "Acronis" family of bootable media to get past the Acronis Logo Loading Screen. it is not my hardware/software envioronment. I would consider Acronis at a later date if they started to use the tools available by the system deployed on. Instead, they have written their own, invasive, platform and expect the end-user system to adapt to it. sorry, but that don't work. and i like the way my system is without it.
i am still waiting on an "Official Acronis Rep" (as in PAID by ACRONIS) to get back to me about my issues and/or a refund.

if you cannot get the Linux based recovery CD to boot, I would try the Windows PE version. Also you might want to try any bootable linux "live" disc (Fedora) and see if that boots. If it does, then I would provide that info back to Acronis. It would be great if Acronis could provide an installable Linux program that could be used to image a Windows partition from a Linux one, or used as part of a "live" Linux disc or USB stick.
On the refund issue, Acronis seems to ignore service requests that ask for a refund. I have not any any luck with any of my service requests. I am not suprised by this though.

If you are asking technical support for a refund, that's the long way around. YOu should contact customer service or chat.

Chat didn't work. I never got a response on it. Should I call directly and if so do you have a good contact number or email address.
