Acronis Loader Hang-up during DriveCleanser

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 and Plus Pack upgrade from Acronis True Image 7.0. Windows XP SP3. Apparently I did not register the upgrade, as Acronis is not showing a record of it when I log in. I was trying to wipe a failing hard drive from another computer using the DriveCleanser functionality. I believe I chose the default algorithm. It said something about having to reboot during the exercise, I approved and went to bed. In the morning it was stuck at "Starting Acronis Loader ..." and the computer will not respond. I have powered down and powered back up only to be stuck at the same spot. I have tried F6, no response. I am not concerned with completing the wipe at this point - I need to get my computer back. What do I need to do?

Good news - I got it unstuck. Tried powering up with Emergency Boot Disc in each CD drive. No luck with the first; worked with the second. In between I unplugged an iPod nano which was left charging via a USB port. Not sure why that would make any difference. Just glad to be going again.

Had the same issue with Acronis True Image Home 2012 while Drive Cloning, and found this thread. I was attempting a Drive Clone and on reboot found the Acronis Loader hanging. Rebooted several times to no avail. Unplugged the very USB drive that I wanted to clone to, and voila! Acronis loaded. I had to reinsert the USB drive after this so that the clone process could continue. Strange that the USB connected drive prevented Acronis from loading?
