Validation fails because archive file not found

Thread needs solution

I have just purchased a new copy of Acronis True Image Home 2012 and have installed it on a machine running Windows 7 Professional. I have tried backing up the hard drive, but validation always fails because the archive file isn't being found. I have a USB hard drive attached that I use for storing the image files. I've started the backup process, used Browse to navigate to a location on the USB drive, created a new folder for storing the image file, and entered the file name. (I like to use file names that indicate the date, such as 20120204.tib, which has always worked fine for me with older versions of True Image.) This is a Dell laptop that has 2 partitions, one named RECOVERY and the other is the normal C:. I select both for backup. Then I start the backup. The backup seems to proceed normally until the validation step, which always fails. I see these messages in the log:

Failed to open archive 20120204.tib.

Failed to prepare data stream. Check whether the source and target partitions exist.
Event code: 0x000B03E9+0x01E50008+0x000B007F+0x000B041D+0x00040007+0x0000FFF0+0x80070003

Operation has completed with errors.
Event code: 0x013C0005

The source and target partitions do exist (otherwise the backup step would not have been successful). I can see and open the archive file in Windows Explorer and in Acronis True Image itself. But for some reason Acronis True Image is failing to read the file for the validation step. I have tried this multiple times, and get the same error every time.

Update: I tried again, this time using the default folder and file name instead of browsing to a different folder and entering a different file name. The default location and file name that Acronis True Image chose is E:\My backups\My_partitions.tib. (E: is my USB drive, which is a Seagate Replica 2TB.) The exact same validation error occurred.

What can I do to get archive validation to succeed?

Thank you,

Rob,
Perhaps this can help.

Once you have created the task either as scheduled or not scheduled, you can initiate the backup either by the schedule; or a desktop shortcut; or by opening the program and choose the "backup now" option.

Thank you for your help, Grover. Using the instructions in your article I was able to do a successful backup with validation.
