ATIH 2011 problems

Thread needs solution

Ok, I own 2009 and 2011 and must say 2009 was much easier to use than 2011. I say this because thei interface for 2011 is SO basic! none of mnay options like 2009.

The problem I've found is that when i run 2011, i get their basic menu, which states i have NO saved disk IMAGES available - WRONG! I have many! (see pciture 1). If I click "My Backups"explore All backups" it only shows my recent saved FILES, not IMAGES! IF I click on a saved IMAGE at the bottom of the screen, it thinks I'm talking about FILES!!??? (see picture 2)

AARRGH!

Question

(1) Can I setup 2011 to show a complete menu options like 2009
(2) How can i tell this retarded 2011 to look at the IMAGES directory to search for images!?

please help, I loved 2009 but must say 2011 is real disappointment.

This is a problem with ATI2011 and ati2012. You can, while in ati, browse for backups to force them to be added to ati's database. This you pretty much have to do if the backups in question were created with a prior version of ati. Once added, ati might or might not correctly associate the task rules with the back ups -- that's life, that's ati.

well - I've owned copies of ati from about 2006 and I think I've paid for three.

ati 2011 is just substandard. I certainly won't buy 2012.

I've decided I'm going to back off to 2010 which is a damning criticism.

hmmmm, I think i'll delete 2011 and install 2009 on my new computer. Can I install 2009 on 2 computers? I've paid for 2 copies so i'm not trying to steal anything.

thanks

Grant.

Your license for each version is not transferable to other versions. Some folks that have had trouble with one have been able to get ACronis to change there license to a diff version.

ATIH 2011 nonstop backup does not work - it's erratic, unreliable, and nonfunctional - nothing gets backed up. I just use a manual regular backup as often as I can. Reply if you have encountered this situation.

ATi2009 wasn't rewritten to accomodate w7 as ati2010 was already in production (Acrdonis release a new ati every fall, more or less).

But you should put your post in a new thread or look for existing threads about nonstop backup in ati2011. In fact, searching such threads might give you some insight into the issue.

I've seen one or two posts on nonstop backup problems but not dealing with complete non-function.

Except for beta testing, I stay away from the Added Features in ati. Wtih ati10 back in 2007, Acronis added automated backup-file management., which I rely on. All the features added since then I generally avoid as few have been perfected. An excpetion for me is the Wake-from-standby option for running tasks, which was add somewhere in the ati20xx series and allowed running tasks from Ati's scheduler instead of window's task scehduler, although the windows scheduler was a tad more reliable. I'd say it's 3-5 versions before a feature becomes mature, solid and reliable.

That suggests that upgrading to 2012 won't necessarily be a solution to the problem.

Bob,
The forum is mostly manned by volunteers with occasional visit by Acronis. Their policy is that if you want official support, then the user needs to originate a request for support via their support function. check out "how to get support" along the left margin and don't shoot the messenger.

Sorry. The definition of shooting the messenger would be knowingly accusing volunteers for something done by the company. I'm not doing that. My frustration arises from non- or dys- functional software which is touted as being fully operational.

There is no arrangement for me or others to take the heat. As you appear to be yelliing (all posts bold type), I am assuming you are trying to get someone's attention, I just wanted to make sure you know how to get support.

What Acronis is doing by sponsoring a forum is what Micrososft and a number of other firms are doing, encouraging users to help each other. So it's good for Acronis and good for users--many firms will not tolerate the negativity of an open forum. Symantec, e.g., closed down it public venue at one time, although I hear it has opend up again. But a user forum is not a general substitute for tech support even if it suffices for many issues and is usually faster and helps keep down the cost of the product. Not to mention some of us find it interesting.

Trying to get Acronis's attention by decrying ati here is like trying to General Motors's attention by running down the streets of Detroit with a megaphone. You might cross paths with a General Motors exec, but it's more of lottery than a reliable thing. You know the old saw about what a lottery is, don't you? "A tax on people that are bad at math."

Actually, I think you looked at the closest corner handy (you hijacked a thread), not the best lit ;)

The title of the thread is ATIH 2011 problems. I have a severe problem with ATIH 2011. This seems to fit the category. Your statement that I hijacked the thread is false and instead of helping with my problem you are going out of your way to make me feel unwelcome here. I volunteer elsewhere and would sure never abuse those who asked for help.

I was just making a joke after yours.

But seriously: virtually all threads on the forum are about problems with ati; it's why most folks come here. I just meant that there was one discussion going on in this thread, different from the one you introduce. That is not to shoo you away from the forum but to encourage you to open your own separate threads for separate topics/discussions. This helps folks to track discussions in a more orderly way and even makes it easier for those that follow to look things up without so easily getting lost in the threads.
