NAS Backup/Restore

Thread needs solution

TI Home V11

I'm considering purchase of a NAS for my home network (specifically Synology DS209+II)

Two questions:

1) Will TI Home V11 "see" the NAS Target Drive as a valid destination for *.tib image files?

2) Following a catostrophic PC drive failure, if I replace the PC hard drive, how can I reach the image stored on the NAS to do a restore?  Will the bootable CD recogniize NAS devices without tweaking, if at all?  I guess this was actually 3 questions.

Hello sparkyguy545,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Acronis True Image 11 Home will see NAS device as destination place to store backup archives.

You should create Acronis bootable disc and use it in case system crashes, it will recognize NAS device and you will be able to restore the image.

I may recommend you download free trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2009 and test it.

I have the Hp Media Vault Pro 5140. I can't see this device as a disk or through ftp.

Do I have to reinstall the HP NTI backup program? (Not according to most, it uses Linux)

Anyone with any words of advice?

I logged out of my VPN no hep; I haven't disabled my anti virus?? but that would **** if I got hit in the interim(only takes seconds.

Help or does this product ****, as they have no support (Oh yeah pay and we might  help you) Get a clue, look at Apples model and you might make some money!!!

Forgot: Runnig XP pro and am moving to Vista that is the reason I bought it.

Hello Ken,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

What is the exact title of the product and the build number? First of all please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program. Check it in Help -> About. You can always download the latest build of the program from your account under Registered Products.

If the issue persists try to create BartPE bootable disc. If some drivers are not recognized by Acronis True Image you may use BartPE bootable disc. It is possible to add any storage drivers at startup in the same manner as when installing Windows on the hard drive (by pressing F6 and inserting diskette with drivers).

To create BartPE bootable disc with the Acronis True Image plug-in you should download PE builder from the following linkhttp://nu2.nu/pebuilder/download/

You can write to the NAS but you can't see it from the recovery disk environment.

I am trying to get support from Acronis without success - see my review and Acronis responses on Amazon.com

I would upgrade to 2010, but...,

Hello Allen and Ken,

Allen, as I can see from your review at www.amazon.com, you have already been provided with a solution.

Ken, here's the solution:

The reason why the NAS was not displayed while booting from our bootable media is that there was no internal (local) DNS in the network and the NAS was accessed via router. While browsing for the NAS, Acronis boot media first of all goes to the router where it gets redirected to the DNS of the Internet Service Provider (as it is configured on the router) that does not know anything about internal network storage resources.
In case there is an internal DNS on another machine in the network and it is included to the settings of the router then while browsing for the NAS the PC will access the router that will redirect it to this DNS that will have the info about the NAS.
In case there is no local DNS in the network then a workaround is to access the NAS using its IP address by simply inputting it in the address textbox where you are asked for the location for an archive. Although the NAS is not visible among locations for an archive in the GUI, it will be accessed this way.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to reply to this thread, I'll be glad to help.

Thank you.

hello everyone. try considering Synology http://www.synologybackup.com http://www.synologybackup.com. Works for me very well. It gives you the advantage of being organized and synchronized every time and is up-to-date. Take a look at their website on how it works. You can even try their free 14-day trial.

I have a Synology DS1511+ with 4 x 2TB drives configured for RAID 5. Acronis True Image Home 2010 "sees" the NAS, but does NOT like using a mapped drive as a target. Using a UNC path appears to work great.

Overall performance is pretty damn good.
