Restore Fail
I'm using Acronis true Image Home 2010 Error loading operating systems is the error message I got when I rebooted. Restore Failed is what I got when I finish restoring. I restored from an external hard drive to my laptop XP. Now I don't have an OS for my laptop. I restored twice. Once with the entire disk and the other just the OS. If I have to depend on Acronis for my backups something tells me I'm going to be losing a lot of money.

Are you saying that I should buy the 2012 version?

No. Your version should do. the guide is very close to the 2010 version. Follow the guide and use your bootable CD.
Use the Add disk option first and then restore by check marking the disk as to what is to be restored.
If 2010 has the "recover disk signature", then also check mark that option which is on the same screen as where the target disk is selected.
If your version is not the latest 2010 version, download the bootable media iso file and remake a new bootable CD with the iso download.

There is no reason to believe that 2012 would do a better job of restoring than the 2010 is doing. Either there is something wrong with the TI-CD or the backup or the procedures or the disk. One step would be to boot the CD and validate the backup being used from the CD.
If the backup validates, then try the procedures outlined in post #1 above.
One thing you might try would be to send a private message to Anton (Acronis support)
http://forum.acronis.com/messages/new/71
and request if it would be possible for him to send you a download link to an 2012 trial bootable media iso file. Normally, the trial version has to be installed before user is able to create a bootable media. As you already have 2010 installed, a 2012 trial CD could be used to do a restore of the validated backup as outlined in

Hello Richard and Grover,
Thank you for posting and I appreciate your assistance Grover.
Richard, just in case, you can always contact our Support team directly, we offer free support for recovery issues.
We will need to check recovery logs in order to understand why recovery failed. Could you perform the restore operation one more time and save the recovery logs without closing the bootable media. (click on the log tab and click save as from the top menu)
I would also like to take a look at your partition structure, please collect the system report from the bootable media.
Let me know if you have additional questions please.
Thank you.
