Windows Update Svc failed following disk restore (Win Vista SP2)

Thread needs solution

Recently had to replace dell laptop hard drive but fortunately had Acronis backup to perform disk restore. Purchased same size replacement HD, but apparently something still remiss as windows update service jet database appears corrupted:

Operation terminated with error -583 (JET_errSectorSizeNotSupported, The physical sector size reported by the disk subsystem, is unsupported by ESE for a specific file type.) after 0.31 seconds.

Been all over MS site trying to find a fix that will work, but thus far no joy. Anyone else successfully resolved this issue?

Solved. I had to install the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology with its control center, then reboot and uninstall Intel Matrix Control. Hopefully this helps.

I had seen the Intel tweak posted elsewhere during my search, but hesitated to muck about with system drivers without some other affirmation. Good call BK. I was unable to get my old datastore.edb to function, but whacking it allowed me to get the service running and I was able to force updates after that.
