clone doesn't work

Thread needs solution

I just bought and installed True Image. I want to image my primary drive before I change the partition. I've run clone three times, and it hasn't worked. I click on reboot when it asks. The first time it rebooted without ever going to the Acronis software. The second time I ran it it went to an Acronis screen, and then hung. The third time it brought up a clone screen for a couple of minutes, without doing anything, and then rebooted. I checked my drive, and it was still empty, so the clone didn't work. I don't know what else to do. I bought this software specifically to do an image.

To do an image, create a disk and partition backup, by clicking on the blue link in the upper right, switch to disk mode and select your entire system disk. This will create a image TIB file that you can use to restore your computer entirely (like a clone).

To do a clone, boot the computer on the recovery CD. If you clone your disk to another disk, the destination disk will be a copy of your original disk (there is no image file).

I did do a disk and partition backup. So if my primary hard drive fails, restoring the TIB file will put my drive back to the way it was? I didn't realize I was making an image file. That's good to know!

Which is more effective for restoring a corrupted hard drive - an image or a clone? Why would I choose one over the other?

I was able to do a disk and partition backup to my second laptop hard drive, but have been unable, for some reason, to do this to an external drive. I'm trying to work with support right now about this issue.
