[Resolved] Acronis disappeared
When I double click the Acronis icon I get a message that Acronis is not installed on my computer. I first installed Acronis Home 2011 sometime in 2011 using a CD and then upgraded to Home 2012 early this year through an online upgrade. My external file shows I backed up my system in January.
What has happened and how should I go about getting Acronis 2012 back on my computer ?

If I go in to "all programs" it shows Acronis. Clicking on this brings up 3 options; Acronis True Image Home 2011, Acronis True Image Home, and Plus Pack for Acronis.
If I open the first there are 5 options, one being Acronis True Image Home. If I click on that I get the message Acronis not installed. This also happens with the second option. If I click on Plus Pack for Acronis nothing happens.

"All Programs" sounds as though you are still using the Windows Start menu. Those are all shortcuts in the Start menu. That's why I suggested that you go to the Programs folder (or Program Files (x86) if you're on Windows 7). The point is to try to launch from the actual .exe file, not from a shortcut. It may be that it isn't a shortcut issue, but you haven't proved that as you're still using the shortcuts.

1. Use the Windows Add/remove option and look to see if you have the program listed as installed.
It will be listed as Acronis True Image Home 2012 or 2011
If you have plus pack installed, it will also be listed under the P as
Plus Pack for Acronis TrueImge Home
Another method would be to
Use the Windows search option and do a file search for
TrueImageLauncher.exe
If you have such a file, then double click on the file to confirm that TI will start.
if it starts , return to the search results folder and drag a copy onto your desktop and rename it so you can identify it as the most recent.

Acronis True Image 2012 is in my list of programs, dated 30/12/2011. When I double click on it a panel comes up giving me the opportunity to select three options:
1. Delete Acronis Secure Zone & distribute its space among partitions
2. Delete nonstop backup storage
3. Remove extended capacity disks
I don't know what to do with these options.
Also have Acronis True Image Home dated 24/06/2010. When I double click this it asks me if I really want to uninstall.
Also have Plus Pack for Acronis 2012, dated 30/12/2011. When I double click this it asks me if I want to uninstall.
Can't find TrueImageLauncher.exe
Can't find an exe file in Program Files (x86). I am on Windows 7.

Sorry, have found TrueImagelauncer.exe. When I double click on it it says "Acronis True Image Home is not installed"

So, check Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs (Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features if you're on Windows 7). Is Acronis True Image listed there? If not, then somehow it has become uninstalled or somehow required registry entries have been removed or are no longer valid, such that Windows thinks it is not installed. If it is listed there, then perhaps something else is happening.

It is listed there and does what I've described above i.e. offer options which are meaningless to me.
I would say that Acronis True Image 2012 is not in my computer.
Is it not possible to re-install 2010 from the CD and then download the upgrade to 2012 from the internet. I still have the e-mail with the serial numbers.

2010 does not need to be installed in order to install 2012. Once you register your 2012 license, the 2012 download becomes accessible and can be installed overtop whatever is there. The download program files is a standalone install and does not need a prior install. If you go this method, un-install the plus pack before installing 2012 and then later re-install the 2012 plus pack. The regular TrueImge and the Plus pack are matched pairs. You cannot intermingle a 2010 with a 2012 part.
If for any reason, you are not able to install, then I would begin by using the 2012 cleanup utility to remove some of the residue.

Uninstalled the Plus Pack without any problem. When I try to uninstall the Acronis True Image Home dated June 2010 nothing happens. When I try to uninstall Acronis True Image Home 2012, dated 30 December 2011 it starts to uninstall then stops saying there has been a fatal error and I should contact Acronis support staff. I will do that on Monday hoping they've had a joyful weekend ready to tackle my problem !

Finally resolved by "online chat" with Acronis support. It's an excellent system with polite, knowledgable and helpful agents.

Did you find out the cause and what was the fix?

The cause seemed to be "orphan" parts of Acronis left around my computer after several upgrades. Acronis support used links to software which could be downloaded and activated to remove the different "orphan" parts, Acronis 2010, Acronis 2012 etc. Once that had been done all levels of Acronis could be uninstalled and the latest 2012 level re-installed. They also showed me how to create a System Back up disc so I was able to back up my system before uninstalling Acronis.
