Dual boot: XP (installed) and Win 7 (to be installed)

Hello,

I am running XP pro with True Image home 2011.

I will be installing WIN7 o/s on a new logical partition with assigned letter "F" on the same HDD where XP is in its own partition (primary) assigned letter "C".

My question is: Will the current Acronis boot loader let me see and choose any of the 2 operating systems?

Many thanks!

Robert

Not on point for your question but, don't you have to install w 7 then next whatever other OS you want to be able to boot into? I thought W7 boot manager demanded that.

Hi Scott,

I have not installed WIN7 yet - I am a bit concerned that the CURRENT Acronis boot loader, im am using in XP, will not allow me to choose which o/s to boot with once I installed W7..

Thanks

If you do a normal Windows 7 install it will detect XP and configure the Windows 7 boot manager to boot into either one. If you do an isolated install of Windows 7 (one independent of XP), you will need to manually update the Windows 7 boot manager or use a third-party boot manager.

If you already have OSS installed (Acronis boot loader?), then I would recommend you do an isolated install: boot to the DD CD, set the new Windows 7 partition Active, hide the XP partition, apply the changes, reboot to the Windows 7 DVD, and install Windows 7 to the new partition. When finished, reactivate OSS. It should detect Windows 7 (I assume you're using DD/OSS 11).
