Partition Image Supported?

If you start TI in Windows, does it give you the option to restore to the other partition?

Is the image (the TIB file) a standard image created by you or is it a One-Click-Backup or other type of "automatic" image?

Is the third partition an actual formatted "empty" partition or is it unallocated space?

If you just want to "move" the image file from one partition to another, why don't you just copy it in Windows and then validate it?

I can not find an option to use the image (TIB by the way, I did a manual image creation) to recover this to the partition that I have ready for it. It defaults to the C:\ which is my main active partition with the current xp os (the one I imaged). The third partition is a formatted empty partition, not unallocated.

If I boot from the recovery cd, it also defaults to the c: currently holding my active xp. In essence, I want to recover from this image but recover it TO the last partition, so I have two working copies of xp, one on partition1, and 1 on partition 3. ie, I'm not just moving the image, I want to recover from it but image it to the empty partition and be able to boot from there.

The default is just a guess by TI as to where to restore the image. Usually, it will default to the source partition.

When you do the restore, just select (check) the partition. On the Settings of Partition... page, click on the "location" text link on the right in the Partition location... section.

If you're already doing that, can you post a screenshot showing where TI won't let you select the partition you want?

I have attached a screenshot of of my partition information, so you can see what I am taking about.

C: has my current bootable xp OS
G: currently holds the .tib that generated off of the c:
F: is the partition that I want to load a new instance of XP on to

If I open True Image and select the 'mount image' option, and follow the process of selecting the image file, ect; when prompted for a destination location, I only have an option for the C: to deploy it to.

I have also attached a screenshot of that setup page for you to see what I am talking about.

This is when running ATI from within Windows, not a screenshot of what I get when booting from the recovery disk, but it looks exactly the same from what I can remember, with no option for either of the other partitions (F: and H:)

Thanks for the responses and time, but I have decided to scrap the idea and will not be trying to mirror/recover to a partition. I'm gonna try a clean install of Win7 instead, as that seems to be the recommended route.

You would need to check the C: partition and then proceed to the next step in the restore wizard. If you're stopping on that screen, you're stopping too soon. That screen is to select what you want to restore, not where you want it restored.

Also, mounting the image has nothing to do with restoring it.

Isn't the 'Archive Selection' where I choose which image to use for the recovery, and the 'What to Recover' selection where I instruct the software on what drive I want the recovery image written to? If you look at the screen shot, the next and last step is 'Finish'.

In the screenshot, you still haven't select what to restore. Once you check an item, more options appear and Finish will no longer be the next step.

In the What to recover section, you are selecting what you want to restore from the image backup, not where you want it restored. For example, if you wanted to restore the C: partition, you would check it and then you would have the option of where you wanted to restore the C: partition in the next step of the wizard (Settings of Partition C).
