Computer did not shut down after backup
Hi,
Made an image backup last night. I do not do this often enough.
I remember when I last did this I had a problem with the computer not shutting down properly. I contacted Support and was given advice over the phone. Unfortunately in my email correspodence all that is mentioned is the conversation and no summary of that advice.
I think it probably centered around whether "shut down computer after completion" was checked or not. In the end I left it unchecked.
After back up had finished I chose the Windows option to Restart. (On reflection choosing "shut down" might have been more logical.)
For absolutely ages it said on going to close down that operations were in progress and to wait. I waited and waited, and then concluded that things had got stuck, so unplugged laptop and took battery out.
Things seem fine, and the back up seems to be there on my external drive.
How do I know if it really is ok though, and what should the correct process have been?
My OS is Vista Ultimate.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the helpful reply.
I have the monthly validation turned on but did not have the box checkd to validate post backup. I guess this is the defautl as I do not remember setting it. Sounds validating post back up is the thing to do. As fopr monthly vslidation well the external drive to which I back up is not always connected.
I'm still not certain whether it is best to have shut down post backup checked or not. mind if you are right and I let the the validate run then the computer should shut down ok regardless, after.
I think it would be best if I ran another image back up. I have it set to the default "incremental". Now there is another problem: wanting to run a backup again I find I do not have enouh space on the external drive.
The drive is 1.81TB but only has 86.2GB free.Estimated backup size is 295GB which seems strange i its incremental & one has just run.
Maybe I should delete the old backups and just do a single backup (or possibly version backup). I have 2 large folders on the drive MY BACKUPS and BACKUP FILES. I am not certain what the latter is. It has in it a BackupInfo.xml file in it and 2 folders called 1 and 2 respectively.
Can I delte backups from within the program ?

Just found there was an option to delte backup, so did so, and seemed to work after "running as administrator". However, the files are still there in MY BACKUPS. I am going to delete them manually.
The C drive is 584GB with 92.8 GB free, so that's thebackup I need to do. I think I will have to go for the single backup option as cannot keep buying hard drives.
As for what created the BACKUP folder. I do not know, and hence will leave alone.
