How do I disable Online Backup subscription message?

Thread needs solution

Every time I open Acronis 2012 I get a message saying my subscription to online backup has expired, at the bottom of the screen, and an entry is written to the log file.

How do I disable an online backup subscription check? I am never going to use the Acronis Online Backup subscription system!

I agree with Purple Edge here. There is also a very noticeable delay (5-10 sec) in program responsiveness during the time the application check the subscription status. Since I'll never do a online backup this is something starting mildly irritating but growing worse by time.

Also it looks sloppy when the message reads something like "Please update your subscription ...  online backups will be deleted in -1 days".

-1 days, come on? Please, feel free to delete my [non existing] online backups and stopp displaying the message already!

You mean ATIH 2012 is ad-ware now, pushing unwanted functions in your face? What happens if you just log off or remove the login information? Or will the program start nagging about that too?

Henk, logging off solves the issue with the stupid message and delay at startup, but also disable Synch.

I would like to know this as well. This is a very annoying bug. I paid for the software, I rather not be reminded about a feature I don't want.

Hello all,

Thank you for your comments, and for bringing this to our attention.

I've checked with our Experts team, we never had such an issue reported before. It looks like of the product's checking Online Backup Certificate in the folder on your computer, and sees that the subscription has expired. Which is strange as it looks like some of you never had the subscription active. Do you mind sending us:

  1. Acronis Info
  2. Wireshark

These logs might shed the light onto the issue cause.

Let us know if you need any help, we will be glad to assist.

Thank you.

Here's the info you have asked for. Hopefully this will help resolve the issue.

@Yana

Even if you have a subscription and it has expired e.g. used during the beta testing the message is still displayed and annoying.

You have to log in to use sync (when will this be fixed so it is not required when using local disks?) If you had an online subscription and no longer want to participate using that option you still get the message when you log in.

This is a fairly black and white situation so it should be 100% reproducible by Acronis QA teams.

I did a fresh windows install a while back when upgrading my computer - it didn't help at all in regard to this issue; exactly the same delay and message.

To my knowledge I have never used the online backup feature (but I'm pretty sure I got a 30 day trial when installing TIH12).

Anyway, I have no problem having the Synch feature disabled altogether so I'm no longer bothered by the delay and message at startup. I'm only doing local synch anyway and you can have windows do that (you don't even need an additional loggin ;) .

The message continues to persist on my system. I have already submitted a System Report as per Yana's request. The message now shows -1 as days. A little weird IMO.

EDIT: removed e-mail

This is a "me too"; I have never touched online backup, so far as I know.

This may help.
Have you tried using the Windows services module and stopping the service for both online backup and the sync service. After stopping, then you can open their properties and change to either manual or disabled.

One method to access the services module would be to use the Run option and type
services.msc

No go - that just got TI angry: RPC errors and the like.

Add one more annoyed user to the list of people trying to figure out how to disable this message . I tried the trial and now it expired. I have no need for it but I see the message every time I start up Acronis True Image. Love the backup utility, HATE the stupid messgae.

UPDATE: Wouldn't you know it? After I left this message I fiddled around and figured out how to get rid of the message. It isn't any setting on your computer. You have to go your online account on Acronis.com and unlink the computer from your account. When I did this the sync tray icon doesn't show up on reboot and I no longer get this message when I start Acronis.

Lu-Khon Mai

i did find the 'unlink' link on the account page.
thank you for your rooting about on this; it is an ongoing frustration for me.

do you have any syncs -- are they still running? (i'd suppose so, else you'd probably have said something about it in your 3/9/12 comment.)
my syncs are between two w7 pcs, connected/accessible by a home network, in the same homegroup.

gati-01

Well, I can't find the link. I never had online backup set up, I never used the trial subscription, and I don't see any place where my computer was linked or registered.

Any suggestions?

Jerry,
I read your posting #13. This is the procedure I use to stop the two services. Don't stop them if you are using these options. You can stop one or both.
This procedure will stop the two features from working or interfering.
Type into the Start/Run Window
services.msc

This will open the services module.
Double click on the
Acronis Non-stop service listing.
Click on the Stop option
In the Startup type windows, change to automatic to manual.
Click apply and OK.

Repeat the same procedure on the Acronis Sync Agent service if not using the service.

I finally stumbled on the link, and I "disconnected" my computer from the synchronization server, but that didn't make the problem go away. However, I also stumbled on what looks like a solution!

I looked in the logs, and saw that the details of the error message had a link to the KB so I clicked on that. The article talked about login credentials, which I didn't remember entering. Then I noticed that my e-mail address was at the top right of the TI home page, so I clicked on that. I logged off, and the message never came back.

Jerry & Grover,

Thanks. I stopped and disabled the 'non-stop ...' service but that stopped neither the slow startup of Acronis nor the 'expired' status message at the bottom. (And I expect stopping this service would prevent my using the non-stop backup were I of a mind to use it.)

I also 'logged off': that did stop the message and the slow Acronis startup but it also prevented my using the Sync, even across my home network *. (The Sync is the only reason I upgraded to the 2012 version of Acronis, because the Win7 version I have will not sync the couple of thousand of small folders I want synchronized (within one higher folder.)
* In fact, the sync is between the local higher folder on my desktop pc and its like folder on another pc, that being mapped locally to the desktop.

Since the sync setup in fact asks whether it is for local (network) folders or otherwise, why do the sync-requirements REGARDLESS still need my being logged on to run?

g

ZC,
If you have the same issues, then why not try the fixes.
Upper right, if it says "log out", then click on it and logout.
If not using nonstop backup, then stop its services and change its status to manual.
if not using sync agent service, then stop its services and change its status to manual.

I saw the fix thank you. The issue is I'm using and want to continue to use the Sync. For some reason Acronis thought it would be fun to make a local sync require online access. Current message is at -1 days.

"Your subscription to Acronis Online Backup has expired. All operations except recovery are unavailable. All online backups will be deleted in -1 days. Update subscription"

EDIT:
It's been awhile since I looked at this. I guess the message hasn't changed at all.

I wonder if Acronis can do something on the server side of this to get ride of the message. This could be possible I think considering it does it across multiple versions.

I got off the phone with Acronis support. Turns out that you can only disable the subscription if you have a subscription active at the time. Once the subscription is expired the option becomes unavailable.

The delete option here is not available if you don't have a current subscription.
https://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2009/09/4284/42847.p…

I wonder if I could get a one month, and cancel it immediately.

Anyway, they said it was going to be added to a list of bugs or something, the phone wasn't very clear.
