Added New Vault. Now What?

Thread needs solution

I am using ABR 11.5 VE (build 32266) on W2K8R2 Std Ed to backup 15 virtual machines on a 3 node W2K8R2 Datacenter Edition Failover Cluster.

Backups are currently performed to a local disk (D:\, 500 GB). I just installed a QNAP TS-469U (4 TB NAS) and attached as E:\ via iSCSI. I have exported an archive and it completed successfully so the bits and pieces seem to be working nicely together, thank you.

What I want to do is keep the latest backups locally on D:\ and automatically move backups GT 31 days to the vault on E:\.

If I modify my existing backup plan's retention rules, is ABR smart enough to move the existing backups on D:\ to E:\? Will I have to wait for the next scheduled backup for this to occur? Is ABR smart enough to merge the data gracefully?

--OR--

Should I export all my existing archives to E:\, delete the archives on D:\, then modify my plan's retention schedules?

Thanks,
Vint

If you modify backup plan to include retentions and second location, it will move all backups that fit the retention rules to the second location. It will happen after (or before) the next scheduled backup, but you can also run replication/cleanup task manually from backup plans and tasks page.

Thanks Fedor. You were correct. I modified the existing backup plans, changing the retention rules, ran cleanup and viola!
