Which should I buy?
The prices (from Acronis’ online shop at least) are now the same. I don’t need Cloud storage but do need bare-metal restore and WinPE standalone restore.

Have the user interfaces of the two been merged or is Backup still more like TI 2010 (which I still use because TI 2011and immediate successors had dumbed-down interfaces)

Both provide bare-metal restore. Not sure what 'standalone' in "WinPE standalone restore" refers to, but both allows to build WinPE-based bootable media and restore to bare-metal using it. Just in case, you can find the comparison chart at http://kb.acronis.com/content/43726 (Universal Restore is always included since 11.5 Update 3)
Interface of Acronis Backup never looked like True Image 2010 - you can see the start page at http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.5/i… , and some other screenshots in the sections below.
