Disk migration fails

Thread needs solution

I have a PC with a 120 GB SSD and Windows 8.1 Pro. I want to use ABR11.5 to migrate to a 320 GB mechanical drive. I backed up the disk to a USB drive and then attempted to recover it to the 320 GB drive but it failed. I'm using the Linux-based program. Do I have to use the Win PE version to handle Win 8.1? Do I have to use Universal Restore?

 Hello Paul,

thank you for posting.

Windows 8.1 is supported by Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 in Build 37975 and later. Please make sure you use the latest version of the program.

You can use the Linux-based bootable media or WinPE media, they have the same functionality and both can handle Windows 8.1 migration.

Universal Restore is required if you change the hard drive controller and new driver should be specified for it. If the same controller is user for both old and new hard drive, you do not need to use Universal Restore.

If above conditions are met but the restore still fails, please provide a description of the failure (is it during restore process or after, when the system is booting) and provide the error message you receive or the operation log.

Thank you,
