I can't do any backup on different materials (multiple problems)
Hello,
First of all,I'm french, sorry for my english, I'll try to be understandable.^^
So first, I created a bootable USB key with Acronis media builder. No probleme.
Then, I boot on Acronis Backup 11.5 with my key on PC1 and save the system by selecting the hard drive that contain the system : (C:). The ghost is created with success on an external hard drive. The system is windows XP pro.
Then, I boot on PC2, the hard drive on it is empty.I plug my external hard drive. I select "recovery", I select the ghost on PC1 made earlier, I check "MBR" and "System". I choose to recover on the empty hard drive. I activate universal restore. Once the recovey is done, I have several warning messages about some drivers that hasn't be found.
When I restart the computer, The boot screen of W-XP appears for 1 or 2 seconds, then it freeze and I end up on the screen when I have the choice to :
- Start windows normally
- Safe mode
- Safe mode with command prompt
- etc.
If I press F8 at the begining, I have access to other option. but I 've tried them all, and nothing happened, the computer restart, boot screen for a sec and then I'm on the same screen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did another ghost on another computer, let's call it PC3. this one is on windows7.
This time, during the recovery, I don't have access to the "Universal Restore" part.
Once the recovery is done, I try to apply universal restore, but it can't detect any OS.
When I restart the computer, I have a message "BOOTMGR is missing".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With a third source PC (PC4) also on W-7, I did all the same thing, and it can't detect the OS neither with Universal Restore.
But this time when I restart I have a message "operating system not found".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve tried on other target PCs, but the problems are the same.
The source computers are all Dell.
I’m using the last version of Acronis Backup 11.5, downloaded on the website few days ago.
I don’t know what to do, I hope you can help me. Thanx.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
I have one more question. What is the MBR ?
When I'm on Acronis Backup, how can I see the hidden volume where the loader reside ? unless this volume called System Reserved is actually the MBR ?
About the BIOS, I configured it to boot from the HDD where the OS reside. And it's still not working.
Thank you.

Hi marc Le Du,
More information on Master Boot Record you can find here. The software cannot identify the volume where MBR resides during creation of the backup task. If you are not sure, better create an image of the whole system and restore complete image to the target machine. Please make the volume where the OS resides active. You will find detailed screenshots of the settings in the following article.
Thank you,
