Move backup files to other drive

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I currently use acronis backup (server edition) on my windows server 2008 r2 to simply make an incremental backup every day.

The backup files are currently stored on a simple external hard drive (which is of course not the best solution) and therefore I'd like to move the entire backup to a NAS (with RAID support).

My questions are now the following:

in general, is this possible to simply move the backup files, change the destination directory and go on like nothing happend?

if not, what alternatives do I have?

Is it possible to access ALL stored version as soon as the backup location has changed?

best regards

Hello tka,

In general, yes, our backup files are almost entirely portable as long as you always move a valid chain of full+incremental slices.

That said, errors are possible and I've seen cases where someone moved all the backups except the first full one, making all the following incrementals uselss.

Which is why I would recommend running an "export" command as described here: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.5/#…

Again, this isn't required, just a good ways to avoid problems if something isn't copied correctly.
