I have a copy of Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation (37975) and I needed to add the Universal Restore feature. When I checked, I learned that the current builds (38774) include the feature so I downloaded the install file. When I tried to install, it first asks for a license key fr MS SQL Server/sharepoint which I don't have. What is it? Why do I need it, and what does it cost?

You don't need it, the product should install without it. It may ask for it if it detected MS SQL server on your machine, but it's optional.
