Restoring backup to dedicated server?

Thread needs solution

Hello

I am currently testing your software and would like to test restoring to a new dedicated server to simulate the loss of our live server. Do you guys have some documentation that will aid me in this process?

I also have a few questions:
-What state state should be new machine be in to allow for the fastest possible restore? Should it already contain the same OS as the backup or should the discs be empty ready for install?

-Is it possible to have this second server up and running and have Acronis keep it up to date with the latest backup?

-When restoring to the new dedicated server: Would I need install the Acronis software and run the restore locally on the new server or would I run the restore remotely?

Hello nic mullens

The full documentation is here http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.5/i…
Basic concepts: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ABR10/index.html#136…

In brief, the OS is not necessary, you can recover to bare metal by using bootable media (make sure that you backed up the entire system with disk-level backup, not just separate files). But - if 1) the OS is running 2) you do not need to restore it 3) Acronis agent is installed on the machine - you can choose to recover only non-system partitions. This will be faster.

In both cases, you can run the restore remotely only if you are trialing the Advanced product version.
