The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
Im unable to get Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5_43994 installed on a Windows server 2008, it has had agents installed on it before and always worked with no issues, but it seems after uninstalling an earlier agent and installing a newer version that it now wont allow to install.
It fails at the 2nd stage of the install when installing the "Acronis Backup 11.5 Agent for Windows" with an error
"The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
Iv looked on Acronis KB and seen some similar errors and i have run the 'abr_cleanup.exe' tool which has successfully completed and removed all Acronis components, but the install still fails.
I have also ran the WMI Diags tool from Microsoft which has run its various scans, which is coming back with some warnings, please see the below extract from the txt file that was generated as part of this vbs script being run.

To be honest im a little uncomfortable playing around with registry settings as i dont have a recent backup of this box, do you have any further advice regarding this issue?

It looks like one known bug in kernel drivers (installed with Agent for Windows), that is alwready fixed and the fix will be available when the driver is signed. However I can't confirm that it is 100% sure, and would recommend to contact support instead.

Just FYI - this is the latest advice from Acronis Customer Central i received on Friday, suffice to say that SFC /SCANNOW check didnt pick up any faults, all updates from Microsoft are already up to date and installed on this machine and the machine itself has been rebooted 2 or 3 times since last week.
Kindly perform the below mentioned steps and then try to install the application:
- Open Command prompt as Administrator
Run the command SFC /SCANNOW
- One the task is over, restart the machine.
If SFC is failing, the most possible will be that there are windows updates that require a system reboot.
Kindly reboot the machine and then run the installation file as Administrator.
Please let us know if this resolves the issue.
If the issue persists, please let me know a convenient time to take a remote access and assist you further on this issue.

Kenneth May wrote:Any luck? same issue here.
Yes, in the end Acronis provided me with an updated removal tool, also found older versions of the services were still actually running on the machine but the actual previous components of the older version of acronis had been completely uninstalled.
So basically download the latest "abr_cleanup_h.exe" tool from Acronis support, stick it on the machine, then look for any services referring to Acronis and stop them, run the removal tool, once completed run the new installation as administrator (right click the icon and run)
Job done.
