Update 2 #38350 for Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 fails install

Thread needs solution

I don't know what is going on with this, I checked the MD5 numbers and downloaded it twice to make sure but it will not install.

The error:
" Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Agent for Windows
Code: 01058
Line tag: 0xc1180c75befcee62
Message: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it"
I don't know why it is doing this, just backed up a drive with version #37975.

I am running Windows 8.1 on this computer and as I said #37975 was installed on Windows 8 so it should make the update.

Any ideas on what is going on?

 Hello Don,

thank you for posting.

Please try moving the installation file from C:\ root folder to one of the subfolders or to another drive and run it from there. There is an issue in the product preventing from running the installation file from system drive root that will be fixed in further updates.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Thank you,

I just had the same message as Don C, but I did not have the installer in the root folder.

I fixed it without moving the installer by totally uninstalling #37975 and then installing #38350. This was much less painful than I feared, keeping all the settings for me. The only minor niggle was that I had to kill explorer for a moment to do the uninstall without requiring a reboot.

I suspect the problem I had may be in the installer which does not ask for the user name and password for the service during an upgrade. The machine is on a domain and I have a specific domain account set up to run the Acronis service. There is no way to enter that during an upgrade. Could this cause the service to fail to start and trigger the installer to abort? On a full install, the installer notices the domain and asks for an account. It could also be tied up with the upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 between the original installation and the upgrade which might affect the installer's ability to manage the account password.

So, no help needed for me but I felt it might be useful to someone.

Eric
