Backups of VMs failing

Thread needs solution

I am having trouble with backing up some VMs we have.  These are without agents and the servers that have agents are backing up fine.  The change was that the password of the domain administrator account was changed and that's when the failures started happening.

I have changed the password in both of the "What to backup" and "Plan parameters" sections of the plan settings (credentials for "What to backup" didn't need to be changed) however I am still getting errors.  Also, in the Virtual Machines section, the status of the VMs show as Error.  I can access these VMs through Windows Explorer however.

Here are the errors when I try to back up one of the VMs:

Hi Andy,

You can try to re-create a backup plan and see if it works as it should.

Hi Andy,

Suggestion from Raphael indeed may help assuming that your Agents for VMware are in normal state and are connected to the virtualization host. If this doesn't help then it makes sense to check the connection from these agents (appliance or Windows agent) to vCenter/ESXi host: connect to the agent individually from the management console (from "Machines with Agents" section, right click on appliance->Connect directly) and then check the creation of new backup plan to confirm that the list of VMs is populated properly. If not then check the virtual appliance GUI console from vSphere client where connection to vCenter/ESXi host is defined.

The error you quoted appears when the backup plan contains wrong reference to the backed up item (VM) or there is no connection to virtualization host from the backup agent.

Thank you.
