Restoring Files from a Physical Server's Backup to a Virtualized Server - Not simple?

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I must be just wacked today... but I am trying to do P2V and have succeeded on the boot drive.
This is a physical file server and has a GPT 3TB drive which is not supported for a volume restore on VMWARE, so I just created a VM with the boot disk and it worked great.

Now the files that I need from the physical server's backup are just below a 1 TB. So I created a new Drive "E" on the VM and want to restore the files from the Backup of the Physical machine into my Virtual Drive "E".

I booted the VM off the recovery disk and started the recovery ... but it is so slow... like 600Kps slow. This recovery will take a month. This was attempted from my Storage Node Server. I aborted the restore after 7 hours ... it was up over 25 days to recover. Now Way!

So I am trying to do a recovery of the files from the central management console to my new VM ... but no matter what options I pick it always wants to restore to the original server. I am doing the recovery from my Central ABR Console. I have a 12TB - Windows Server 2008R2 Storage node with a Quad ET 1G Intel card (4Gbps) they are bonded on a Cisco Switch using LACP. Backups are fast ... restores 600kbps from an Recovery Disk?? That is useless to me.

I've seen a lot of people complain about ABR11 recovery time vs ABR10. I was happy with ABR10. Lot's of quirks ... but when I needed a fast recovery it did the job. ABR11.5 ... not so much.

Can anyone give me any advice. Screenshots?

Thanks,

Walt

If the occupied space on the original disk was below 2tb you can create an new volume of this size in the VM and recover it as volume. There also may be a problem with network drives in the bootable media - is recovery of the same files from windows to some volume equally slow?
