AB12 Update 3 Failure to Install - RESOLVED

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Just tried to update my AB12 installation, which is:

Web console service: v.12.0.2607

Backup management server: v.12.0.3622

Backup management console: v.12.0.6081

Simple installation graphics comes up after downloading 100% using the Web Installer indicating "An error occurred" (see attached file).

According to the "View installation log" report (also attached as a text file), I am missing some file named "C:\Windows\Installer\101675.msi".  Must have been the original installation with AB12, but is not longer in the directory/path called out in the Installation Log.

What are my options here?  I do not want to reinstall everything from scratch...that's a mess!  Can I use the full install version (AcronisBackup_12_64-bit.exe, 977MB) and have it "update" that way or this asking for more trouble?

Hi, looks like you cleaned up folder C:\Windows\Installer\. It is strongly recommended not to make any changes with this folder. The folder is used to store important files for applications installed using the Windows Installer technology and should not be deleted.

Without it, upgrade or even re-installation of any Windows program can be impossible.

I can only advise you to completely remove the Acronis Backup via Add/Remove programs and cleanup your PC/Server's registry with some 3d-party cleaner. I hope it will help.

Hi Andrey,

I do have a c:\windows\installer directory with full subdirectories.  However, the installer subdirectory has a Hidden attribute...perhaps the AB12 Update 3 web installer could not find the installer subdirectory due to the attribute.  I will try later to see if this works.

Hi Andrey,

If I go for the full AB12 uninstall and clean out all of the registry entries and files on the hard drive, what configuration files should I backup/keep so as to not loose login and other pertinent backup information I have?

Chris

BTW...Is there a tool Acronis has I can download that does a aggressive computer uninstall of the AB12 product prior to re-installing?

In order to avoid further problems with re-installation, it is not recommended to keep any entries. For v12 we don't have the celanup utility yet (expected soon), you could try the utility from 11.7 version. Not sure if it will help: https://kb.acronis.com/abr115cleanuptool
