Acronis Management Server On Domain Controller

Thread solved

Seems like an odd question, but I would like to know if I can make my AMS a DC?

I currently have 3x 2012 Servers, 2x MS SQL and 1x BackUp, with I made my Acornis Management Server.

Currently they are all in a Wrokgroup, but I would now like to create an AD.

I figure the ideal would be to make the AMS/BackUp the DC, but I was wondering if it may adversely affect the Acronis system in any way?

Has any tried this before and if so did it work or go horribly wrong?

Hello Steve,

Thank you for the message. Do not worry: there are no odd or silly questions

Although there are no restrictions in installing the management server onto DC, I would not recommend doing it.

The best solution for your environment would be a "one server = one role" concept. It will make further troubleshooting, setting up and usage simple.

The management server does not require much resources, which means that you can install it even on a workstation machine.

Alternatively, you can use a Cloud-based AMS: https://eu-cloud.acronis.com/bc/#m=Resources&s=1&key=all

Additionally, you may find these instructions on moving the AMS helpful.

If none of these solutions work for you, please follow the instructions to make the software work with your DC:

  1. Create a new AD service user with a non-expiring password;
  2. Add the necessary rights to the user account manually;
  3. Make sure that this user has Administrator and Backup Operator rights
  4. Start Acronis Managed Machine Service under this user.

I hope I could answer your questions. If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
