Acronis network qouta options

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to discover my options for throttling network traffic to avoid overburdening the local network. Here is my experience so far:

  1. I found that I can configure network usage in kbps for a backup plan, though it's not clear if the specified speed applies per agent or to all machines with this backup plan. (I'm guessing the former)
  2. I also configured the storage node to limit outbound traffic through windows QoS policy.
  3. For some backup plans I also found that I have a parameter for limiting concurrent backups, but I can't find such a parameter when I set a plan to execute 14 days after last back (Biweekly backup).
  4. At the moment running several backup plans at the same time results with 2 backups running and the rest eventually running into the error: "Windows error: (0x80070047) No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept"

What other options do I have to limit bandwidth, network usage, number of concurrent backups etc?

Hello Péter,

thank you for your posting! I'd also suggest distributing backup start times. If the gap is large enough, first part of Agents will be able to complete backups till the queued Agents start accessing the share.

1 - the setting is applied per Agent

3 - Simultaneous backup option is only available for virtual machines, for physical machines you may want using Distributing backup start times

Hello Ekaterina!

For some reason this setting isn't saved for my current plan. When I save the backup plan and choose "Apply to all machines with this backup plan" it reverts back to "Start all backups exactly as scheduled". I've only experienced this when the backup has a scheduling option: "Upon time since last backup". It saves correctly in other scheduling schemes.

Is this behavior intended? i.e. Some other setting conflicts with this? FYI I also have start conditions within a time window and performance settings within this same window.

I also have more questions regarding this setting:

  1. What does "time window" refer to?
  2. Do I understand correctly that with this if all the backups fit within this maximum delay the effect would be a single backup running at a time, among the machines with this plan? If they don't fit, the next backup would start regardless causing some overlap?

Hello Péter

thank you so much for your reply!

May I ask you to upload your backup-plans as .json-files to our FTP-server, so that we could check your settings and reproduce the issue in our environment? I will send you the link in private messages. To find them, navigate to the upper right corner – My account – Inbox.

A "time window" is a time frame when backups are allowed to start and run. The will not run outside these hours, so you can have more control over your schedule. So it means that the backups will start at the scheduled time and will run only within the time window. If a backup needs more time to complete, than a window allows, the backup will stop and through a warning. You can find more information on this setting here

You can run multiple backups simultaneously if you have several agents. It means, if you have for example 5 VMs with agents installed on them, they will perform 5 backups simultaneously within the time frame.

I hope I could answer your question. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Thank you!

I've uploaded the exported plan to ftp. This is the only plan we currently have. Just for reference I originally noticed this issue with build 13400. I can still reproduce it with the currently running 14240.

Thank you for your reply!

I am sorry, it seems like the FTP is empty. Would you please download the data once again? You can find the instructions here

If you have additional questions, please let me know.
