Deduplication database protection

Hello.
What is the best method to protect deduplication database? I ask this because if the deduplication database is corrupted then all backups are useless. Right? I think there is no way to restore a backup without the deduplication database. Is that correct?

Hi,
The deduplication database can be re-created basing on the data stored in the actual backup location. You can attach (Backups->Add location) the existing location, while specifying an new path for the deduplication database, which will be re-created. Note however that it would take significant time though.
Thank you.

Trying to check the recreation procedure of the dedup db in a test environment of course I get the following error.
I removed the working location, I renamed the dedup folder and I tried to add the same location but I get the following before the dialog about the dedup path. The specified folder of course is not empty because it has the backups...

Athanasios Pantziarelas, please show the contents of the root folder M:\Backups
What is the value of <attached_to> in file like M:\Backups\.meta\HHHHHHHH-HHHH-HHHH-HHHH-HHHHHHHHHHHH (file with the smallest size)?

Hi,
A deduplication location consists of primary path (Path field) and database path. If you delete some files from the primary path, then you'll get the message on your screen shot, that the location is unrecognized.
Here's what should be if you move the actual deduplication data folder to anywhere and try to attach it as existing location:
Here's also a screen shot showing proper contents (files list) of deduplication location + DB location. Note that .FDB file is _not_ the actual database - it's a file which contains unique blocks, but you can't remove it (losing this file means loss of data). The location database files are shown in the bottom:
Thank you.

As you can see .meta is in dedup folder that is stored in another folder than backups.

In my case I cannot attach the vault even if I just detach and try to reattach it without doing anything else. I get the same error that the folder is not empty...

It looks like "add location" tries to create a new one rather than attaching an existing. I saw that acrocmd utility has an option "attach vault" but I do not know the syntax to try it command line. Unfortunately there is also no /? option.

Ok... The mistake was that adding the new location I choosed the backup folder and not the deduplication folder...
