Failed to index backed-up volume. Windows error: (0x80070008) Not enough storage is available to process this command
Hi there,
Question: How to backup large shared folders/volumes ~20-30TB? Because after one week of backing up it always ended up with error "Failed to index backed-up volume Windows error: (0x80070008) Not enough storage is available to process this command"
I run latest Acronis 12.5 installed on physical Win2012R2 server with attached NAS (190TB) by ISCSI. This storage works as a destination for backups. Free space is about 180TB.
I have source Windows 2012 VM with attached shared volumes = 5 to 30TB. Volumes attached by ISCSI from another NAS storage and used by clients as departmental folders to save their data for more than 10 years. Acronis agent installed inside this windows machine, to be able to see volumes as separated disks.
In Acronis I created individual plans for every volume attached to source machine. Plans uses version 11 scheme with "always incremental" option. Creating initial full backup takes about 3 days for 5TB volume. Then incremental backups take 1 to 3 hours to perform, which is fine.
It works with all 5 plans created for drives less than 20 TB (4,6,14, even 18TB I can backup normally).
But I have 2 plans for 2 big shared drives (one is 26TB, another 35TB) that failed every time. Plans are created and started as usual, it spend about 260 hours to create full backup and failed on 96 % with error I wrote above.
After failure on destination storage I see huge backup file "plan-number-id-blalabla.tib" and xml file, able to look inside backup, but in Acronis web panel shows Zero bytes and no backup inside.
Then if I run this plan again, big backup file is overwritten by new process and I lost all previously saved files in this plan.
I found article describing possible solution https://kb.acronis.com/content/8032 but how to calculate space size for temporary files regarding backup size in Tbytes and where to place them? Disk C on machine with installed Acronis has only 240GB of free space.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Vasiliy,
Thank you for reply.
I've opened ticket with Acronis support team, and they suggested to perform these steps:
- Launch the software.
- Select the machine which will perform a backup of this shared folder.
- Create a new backup plan as files and folder.
- Select all the folders which you would like to backup.
- Once the source is selected select destination.
- Now go to Backup options and we need to disable "Multi-volume snapshot" and "VSS".
- Please look for both above options under backup options and disable them.
- Save the backup and run it and monitor it.
- The backup may take a long time for the very first time because the size of the backup will be large.
Backup is in process now:
Start time:
Aug 28, 2018, 10:35:17 AM
Duration:
25 hrs, 11 min
Bytes processed:
2.23 TB
Bytes saved:
2.05 TB.
And it is version 11, because when I created new plan with version 12 and disabled VSS&MVS options, it's got stuck on 21% (~300GB) for 3 days without any progress, so I decided to cancel it and create new v11 plan.
Actually I found out that v12 works perfect with backing up all VMs when Acronis agent installed on hypervisor (no matter VMware or Hyper-V), but v11 is better for volumes/files/folders when agent is on target machine. Just my observations.
Let's wait for now.
