Strange SQL backup issue

Hi,
About once a month my backup job of SQL data (not full VM backup) fails and causes the one small part of the application that relies on the SQL Server to fail.
Now it's odd, because the SQL Server appears to work and all but one small part of the dependent application appears to work.
The only way to get this working again is to reboot the SQL server - this only occurs when the database backup fails.
I am in contact with the application developers as well but I was hoping someone could have a look at the failure log for me.

Hello cw1972,
This one is a known issue that was fixed starting from the Update 2, so first of all it's worth installing the latest build (10330).
All installers and documentation are available here:

Let me know the outcome.

I updated from 7970 to 10330 and all my backups started failing with "Backup failed
input/output error", the only way I have been able to get them to run successfully is to move the existing backups into an OLD folder and run them from fresh.
Fortunately I only really need the latest of my backup but it was a bit of a pain and I am still in the process of fixing my backups and I don't yet know if it addresses my original SQL issue.

Hello cw1972,
Sorry to know about the issues you've encountered.. Was the initial problem with the SQL backup resolved after update?

I'm not 100% sure yet as the issue only happened rarely but not had any further problems yet
