Freundliche Guesse
Jens

Hello JD,

welcome to Acronis forums!

Please note that backups stored on tapes are not deleted until the tape is overwritten. The tape cannot be overwritten until any backup outside of this tape depends on a backup from this tape (e.g. an incremental backup is on Tape 2 and a full backup is in Tape 1 which is marked for deletion).

If you do not need these backups, please move this tape to the Free Tapes Pool. As soon as Acronis Backup 12.5 reuses this tape, all backups there will be deleted, including backups that depend on backups from this tape.

In order to avoid such situations, please set Retention Rules to create full backups more often in order to minimize dependable incremental/differential backups.

Please contact Acronis Support Team if you need help in selecting the most suitable Retention Rules scheme.

Hello Maria,

thanks for your reply.
Currently I have set up a full backup for each day, no inkremtal or differential. It should be stored only two full backups, right?

Best regards,
JD

Hello JD.

In your situation backups on this tape will not be overwritten until you add another tape.

The specific of tape usage is that files cannot be deleted selectively: only a full tape at once. There is a contradiction: you scheduled to make a full backup every day and to keep 2 backups, but in order to delete old backups from tape it should erase the entire tape which cannot be done according to your retention rules - to keep 2 backups.

Thus, in order to solve this situation, we recommend that you add another tape: the software will place the next two backups on that tape and then will delete all marked for deletion backups from the current tape.
