Acronis "undecided" about archive's validity...?

Thread needs solution

I am dual booting WIN2K Pro and XP Pro, have Acronis TI Home version 11, and backup each OS to a removable 500GB firewire drive.

I had pretty well been using XP exclusively until about 3 weeks ago when a situation arose (virus) where I could not (and still cannot) boot into XP at all, only into Windows 2000.

When am working in W2K and I open TrueImage Home -- and attempt to either validate or restore my latest backup of the XP Pro drive (using the B&R wizard) I get the message that it is "not a valid backup archive", and if I click "Continue" anyway, I am told that the file is corrupt.

HOWEVER, using the bootable CD I can validate that same archive and get no error messages. What's happening here? Can/should I go ahead and attempt a restore from the Acronis Bootable Disk? I don't want the drive to go South on me, as I can still access the files on it...

Why am I getting these differing results while working with the exact same archive? I suspect I know why but would like to put it out to this more learned forum...

Hello Philip,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

The program behavior is abnormal. There are two things that you can apply to fix the issue:

1) Please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program #8101. You can find out the build number by selecting "Help" option, "About". if the build number differs from the latest one, please install the latest build and update the program and Acronis Bootable Media.

You can learn more on how to download the latest build here.

2) Try to use, for example, USB or eSATA posts instead of FireWire (if it is possible). Or copy the archive file to internal hard drive and see if the issue remains. Anyway, this will help to localize the issue.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
