Admin Guide for recovery of RHEL to dissimilar hardware

Thread needs solution

I got the Acronis backup to work on RHEL v4 and v5.x - Does anyone have a useful guide for recovering a RHEL environment to dissimilar hardware in a DR scenario. I tried to work with the Acronis support team and was essentially told "Even if you get it to work once, it'll never work twice in the real world" and "This will be available for 'real' in a future release".

If the answer is some series of complicated "hack the kernel" and stand on one foot steps, I would love a step by step guide that is actually useful. If the answer is "This is not a viable solution that you or your business can bank on yet" that's ok also, but I want to stop dinking around - Any insight/help is appreciated :)

Hello JMc,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting. I will certainly help you with your question.

At the moment, unfortunately, restoring Linux to dissimilar hardware can be done by means of Linux only. We do not have an Acronis Universal Restore for Linux at the moment. We have several guidelines available in this KB article and you can also check various Linux communities such as this one, for example.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
