Backup and Recovery 10. Restoring to smaller HD. HD option is greyed out

Thread needs solution

Hello

I am recovering from a DVD that was created on a machine that had 300 gig hard drives. The amount of spaced used on the large hard drives was less than 5 gigs so I was able to create a single DVD to recover from. I am trying to recover to a smaller hard drive (a SSD hard drive. The original was a SATA HD but the controller is the same). I get two things to recover, the MBR and the C drive. I can click on change and get the MBR volume but when I go to the next volume, the C drive, the hard drive choice to restore TO is greyed out (it shows the volume size). The SSD drive is 75 gigs.

Any help on this would be tremendous.

I have tried to NOT recover the MBR and that didnt help and I have tried choosing disks and files but neither option would let me recover to the SSD. BTW, the old PC was 2 300 gig hard drives on a SATA Raid card. The new drives are 2 75 gig SSD and on the same controller.

Thanks and looking forward to the resolution!!!

Restore with resize from DVD is prohibited. (Even to larger tahn original volume thought it's not your case)

Ok, so what is the solution then? Should I put the image on a hard drive and do a restore from hard drive via USB?

You can use hard drive or usb thumb drive. If the recovered os is windows 7, you can create two partitions on the 75 gb (assuming there is no 'reserved' partition in the backup), using windows 7 or windows 7 boot cd, for proper alignment, copy the backup from dvd to the second partition, restore it to the first and then delete the last partition and resize the system partition to occupy the whole disk.

I have a very similar problem with Backup & Recovery using a DVD boot medium:
-I made a backup of a 750GB (in laptop)(with only 100GB data !) HD on an external HD via USB. The size of the backup files is aprox. 30GB.
-I try to recover the disk on a 160GB HD(in laptop) via USB. The backup indicates the size of the original HD (750GB)
The HD choice to restore to is greyed out (it shows the volume size).
-I tried to recover the volumes: same problem.

Is it really not possible to make easily this basic function "recover to smaller HD" ?
